PATCHED VBMETA.IMG for MERLIN by VD171

For what do I need it ?

If you try to flash any custom partition, your device can bricks or gets in bootloop. This patch with disabled verity and disabled verification avoid it and need to be flashed once only. Once flashed, you don't need to flash vbmeta again.

Works with:

- Xiaomi Redmi Note 9
- Xiaomi Redmi 10X 4G

Firmware Versions:
- (Engineering) AL2522-Merlin-V039-Q-0513
- (Engineering) AL2522-Merlin-V044-Q-0920
- V12.5.1.0.RJOMIXM
- V12.0.1.0.RJOMIXM
- V12.0.8.0.QJOMIXM
- V12.0.7.0.QJOMIXM
- V12.0.6.0.QJOMIXM
- V12.0.5.0.QJOMIXM
- V12.0.4.0.QJOMIXM
- V12.0.3.0.QJOMIXM
- V11.0.5.0.QJOMIXM
- V11.0.4.0.QJOMIXM

How to flash it?
Code:
fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta_vd171.img

how to make system R/W?

I'm not sure. Probably, you can't.
For uninstalling system apps, you need to debloat your device.
Try this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/module-terminal-debloater-v17-3-2-debloat-systemlessly.3584163/
Good luck

Hi @VD171
Thanks for your patched vbmeta.

Are you saying the latest version 1.20 of my script actually works on your device? This is great news. Which device and android version did you try it with? Thanks!

I'm not sure, my friend.
I just checked your script and my little knowledge, I could confirm that it would really work.
But I did not done that yet.
I prefer to keep the system intact and untouchable.
This saves my time in the backups and storage space.
Thank you very much for your great contribution.

Hi, i'm new to flashing Xiaomi Devices, and it seems like a pain compared to other phones I've had before, if I understand i need to flash this VBMETA before flashing anything with TWRP right ? my issue is i'm in Europe and my firmware version 12.0.6 QJOEUXM, not QJOMIXM, should I be flashing these files, or should I flash a Global firmware with the QJOMIXM first ? I have to admit I'm a bit lost with all this

Do i need to flash it before flashing recovery or after flashing recovery?
The vbmeta is so simple, it can only do two things: allow the beginning of the boot, or not.
If you flash the stock vbmeta without disabled verity and disabled verification, your device will be bricked.
Vbmeta verifies if any partition has changed, if it was, then it reboots the device, causing a bootloop.
You really need to patch vbmeta if you want to apply changes to your device.
