I tried using the ota 2.3.4 update but ran into a problem, nothing happened. I have Root and S-off. I then followed the directions for getting back to Froyo from SkyRaider with HeyItsLou kernel #9. So now I have S-off and 2.2, but I don't have the update notice in the notification area anymore. What should I do to get back to flashing 2.3.4? My intention is to reload a custom ROM after I update, but the update invitation is gone from the phone.
Thanks,
Luke
If you were on skyraider than your phone more than likely never downloaded the OTA in the first place, it only got the notification but skyraider blocked the download. Going back to 2.2 doesn't guarantee that you will get the notification again right away, I didn't but I had copied the OTA file I downloaded on my own custom 2.2 ROM onto my sdcard before I went back to stock 2.2. Also if your going to reload a custom ROM again anyways then whats the point of even downloading the OTA?

You know, I did not realize they posted that part about flashing roms still. If you plan to switch roms, why not just try Wildstang's 4.06.605.3 OTA rom?

When, I couldn't get the update to repush to my phone, I flashed 2.2 using HBoot (got it from the DougPiston link). It has to be in the root directory of the card. Then I called Verizon. They had me do a factory reset to wipe all phone data and then establish a google account on the phone after activating it using *228 option 1. Establishing the google account was an essential step in getting the update to repush to my phone. The tech support guy said this is necessary on the earlier HTC Incredibles as it does something to the data flow that allows the push to happen again. Anyway, I can also confirm that I still have S-Off and have flashed CWM and su and all is good. Much thanks to all. Now I need recommendations for a good sense gingerbread ROM to try. I had been on Skyraider before the upgrade with HeyitsLou #9 kernel. What is best for 2.3.4 upgraded phones in terms of sense and non-sense ROMS and kernels. I'm assuming my old ROMS and kernels won't work after the upgrade.
Thanks so very much to you all for the help to this point.
Luke

Addendum: Sorry, I didn't see the messages above. I guess I went through some unnecessary steps. I thought I had to upgrade first. What a lot of work for nothing. I didn't realize I could get all of this by just flashing a Gingerbread ROM. I was concerned that I not lose access to some of my root programs, but... So please suggest stable ROMS I should try.
Luke

L-O-L I wondered why you were doing all this! I stopped doing rom recommendations as I realize everyone's needs vary. I suggest reading different threads, seeing what's out, and testing them for yourself.

All I will say is I lean towards the rom in my signature.

Happy flashing!

Is there currently a HTC Official RUU package for this update, like the one you can use HTC Sync with to get to 2.2?
AKA, a single package to get to the latest official HTC Rom.

In short, no. There are a few zips floating around that were pulled from a users Nandroid backup after accepting the OTA but nothing officially signed from HTC.

Are you rooted? If so, just flash Wildstang's 4.06.605.3 rom over in the development section for the latest OTA.

Su push failed numerous times

So I followed your original instructions with installing CMW and in HB boot menu it says bad image or wrong image...etc. So im needing help installing CWM and Superuser to my HTC Incredible 2.3.4 S-off. Im just wanting my Superuser to work again so I can use my apps again.

In the fourth post of this rom is a link to Superuser thread for the latest version. I don't see a previous post by you, as for CWM what is wrong with your current version? Is it not doing something?

I had to register after reading this thread and getting nowhere.

I started out with an S-off unrevoked root job and installed the leaked 2.3.4 (4.06.605.2) and it runs fine but I can't seem to install any of the CWM recovery versions.

I have an AMOLED dispaly and first tried 3.0.0.8 since it says it works for both and then tried the 3.0.0.7 (both renamed to PB31IMG.zip).

I boot into hboot (vol-down + power button) and it runs through the PB31IMG filetypes and spits out 8 lines in green text to the effect of "No image or wrong image!". It goes by pretty fast.

If I am in hboot and select "Recovery" from the menu, I first get the laying down phone with the green circle-arrow icon and then the red triangle exclamation point icon and nothing more happens.

I'm now in the process of reformatting (fat32) a second SDcard since my primary one seems to be fraught with bad sectors and I will try again but I suspect no changes from the above.

Is there a step I'm missing somewhere?

Thanks.

UPDATE:
the reformatted SDCard must have made the difference. 3.0.0.7 installed on the first try. I was able to get into CWM recovery and install superuser.

Verified this all works properly with Titanium Backup.

Weird thing now, market.android.com doesn't list my phone...

Glad you could get CWM 3.0.0.7 working properly! The market website is finnicky like that depending on the rom you are using, it's been so long since I used it that I forget about it's existence. The way I see it, as long as it works appropriately on my phone then I am happy.

Hi, I have this RUU downloaded and dropped on my SDcard in the root... when I go into Reboot in Recovery from CWM, I try to open PB31IMG.zip from my SDcard and get the following
E:Can't open /sdcard/PB31IMG.zip
(bad)
Installation Aborted.

I can usually figure this stuff out through the threads but am stumped. Any advice for a forum noob would be appreciated. Thanks.

Turn your phone off then hold "Volume Down + Power button" until your phone turns on, it will boot into hboot (white screen with the skateboarding Android). "PB31IMG" files are installed via hboot not recovery.

Ok guys..noob question in the wings. I was just given a dinc since my eris is dead..phone is completely stock with s-off already. So Theoretically all I need to to do dl cwm ( which I dislike as I used ra for the last year) then hboot file, then dl su and should be peaches yes?

You can only re-root if you have s-off. S-on blocks you from replacing the stock recovery with a custom recovery and blocks the installation of superuser into the system folder.

Eventually the Unrevoked team will come up with a new way to root phones but this most likely won't happen till the OTA actually starts to drop and people report how they lost root. And then who knows how long it will take them to do it. Could be a few days to a few months.
There is actually a thread on here to root after doing OTA 2.3.4. It requires using unrevoked 3.22 instead of forever (3.32) to get root, then downgrade to froyo, then use forever to get s-off.

I just did it with my girls incredible, worked fine. She didn't want to lose anything though, so I made a nandroid after getting root and CWM on there, then restored the backup after getting s-off. Had to restore as the RUU downgrade wipes data. I'd highly recommend giving it a go.

The only exploit is the one detailed in this section by Scotty1223 titled "root 2.3.4, downgrade, and s-off" Someone posted in it today so it should be fairly high up on the first page.

CW works great for the Inc and doesn't trash your phone like it did the Eris before they came out with the update.zip fix. With that being said you shouldn't have to worry about using CW for your new Incredible.

Your phone already has S-Off? Sweet. Just flash CW 5 from the bootloader with the zip provided from this site

pvillecomp.com/?page_id=28

After you boot into recovery I'm sure you'll know what to do :)

i keep getting
E: can't open /cache/recovery/command

Could this be because I'm using my Eris sd card unformatted? Seems the only sensible answer
