I read up on some threads that you need to flash a verity disabler zip in twrp during the rooting process or whatever in order to boot again cause of the protection features in the kernel and in others i read you just gotta flash magisk..

where can i obtain one of these zips and are they universally compatible with all android devices with a verity checking thing in the kernel? a thread on here said that i would need to flash a custom kernel in order to use magisk or something cause it wouldnt pass the safetynet on a stock kernel?

so many contradicting posts and instructions for root on this device.. what do i have to do? help please?

Seems to be lots of blind leading the blind going around. You don't need no stinking zip! I don't use magisk, but I know su disables dm-verity, and if magisk doesn't I would be very very very surprised. Matter of fact, you can see verity getting patched when you install su.
Let's start with this , what are you trying to do?
And what are you trying to do it with?
What rom, stock? Yet another thing missing from most of these posts is info. You supply it, you'll get better help.

Idk. I want to go stock root and then get a room later. I just bought this phone and don't wanna do something wrong this early.

I read up that SuperSU won't work and will give errors or bootloop or something.

Reply to a post or things will get missed. And you read wrong, well, whoever had the trouble may have had a boot loop, but that was cuz they did something wrong.
Flash latest 282sr5 in twrp - simple as that. I know it works, I've done it.
I would also highly recommend you keep stock images on hand in case something does go wrong. Better yet, bu everything in twrp, except image partitions and efs - always bu before screwing around with things (naturally).

okay well i got root now, no problems other than failing to boot ito recovery from the bootloader menu using the selector buttons cause i didnt realize until after the face that booting into the OS without first going to twrp will wipe the recovery from the phone my error

but no mistakes during the whole wiping process or flashing magisk process.

now before i do this..

is it safe to update magisk manager? its prompting for an update and i dont want to update it if it will give me a problem
