Verizon Droid 3 XT862 working fine in Movistar Argentina 3G

I bought this phone used in the US and it's working fine in Argentina. Movistar and Personal use 850/1900 for 3G. Dual core phones cost an arm and a leg thanks to our wonderful customs rules, so getting a VZW XT862 is a great alternative.

The stock ROM was laggy and full of Verizon bloatware so I rooted, added Safestrap 1.06, CM7 with GSM patch. Works great. I really miss the camera though. Hope it gets supported by Hashcode soon.

Upgraded to CM9 ICS preview 5.

3G GSM working. Everything working except known issues with DNS, slider keyboard and camera.

DNS Changer apk solved the DNS issue easily.

Too bad I don't have permission to post on the dev subforum.

Upgraded to CM9 ICS preview 5.

3G GSM working.
I guess I spoke too early. GSM is not stable at all.

If I do *#*#4636#*#* (hidden menu), the 3g radio seems to be working, but if I try to make a call the phone app dies. When I go back to the 4636 menu, the status is all weird. If I disable and reenable the radio, the phone registers with the 3g network correctly. Ping test passes.

I do notice that the 4636 is showing 0db signal.

WTF?

Hashcode has said that his build doesn't work well with umts yet. Fine for cdma 3g, but is more focused on building a stable ics before looking into umts issues.

I started over and it has been working for the last two hours.

Factory reset, format /system. install cm7 11-16. install gsm patch with data. Boot to cm7. install DNSChanger. Reboot to Safestrap. Apply CM9 ICS preview 5. Apply ICS gapps. Reboot. Android will be upgraded from GB to ICS. Activate automatic DNSChanger.

Will post a 4636 screenshot when it starts failing again.

I installed Preview 6 last night, but unfortunately I lost several incoming calls today.

After realizing that I was losing calls, I went to the 4636 menu, and called myself from a landline. On 4636 there is a line that says: Call Status and it said IDLE while I was calling myself.

So I turned off the radio, waited for 5 seconds and turned the radio back on.

Then I tried calling myself again and the call came through.

My previous Android phone was a Samsung Spica and I used the samdroid.net forum so my post count is really low here. I would really like to be able to post on the CM9 Preview thread instead of here.

@Hascode, is there a log I can send you to troubleshoot this?

One thing I did notice is that the 4636 menu doesn' t show crazy values any more like it did in preview 5. So some of Hashcode's fixes are working but there is still something missing.

¡Buenísimo ver otro argentino con Droid 3 en el foro! :)

My girlfriend got me a D3 a couple of days ago from the US and it was carrier locked to Verizon. I wonder how you got yours unlocked. Did you buy it already unlocked or did you have to go through activation code / Turbo Sim?

I personally tried both options and the 2 activation codes I got (bough them from 2 different sellers and got one repeated and a second different one) didn't work at all. I am unsure whether this is due to the codes being wrong or the phone not being in Verizon's network and therefore not unlocking due to lack of carrier authorization.

The Turbo SIM worked just fine, but I get an annoying "R" symbol (roaming) on top of my signal bars and am apparently only able to connect to 2G (though I haven't tried data yet since I don't have data on my plan).

I'm also amazed that ICS is working for you, I haven't dared to try it yet since Hash stated support for GSM wasn't ready yet.

Saludos y espero a tu respuesta ;) / Cheers and I eagerly expect your response.

Hi firtermish,

I bought mine on eBay USA. When it arrived I just inserted my Movistar SIM, selected GSM/UMTS and it worked, with any need to unlock.

AFAIK, a connection to the carrier is not necessary to perform a SIM unlock.

I have returned to stock VZW firmware because neither CM7 nor CM9 have camera support. I like to take pictures and videos of my family so the camera is a must. I still dual boot to ICS using safestrap sometimes when I am at the office just to play with it.

If you need help send me a PM and we can talk over the phone.

Lucky you! I was cheap and was tempted to buy a locked one since it was dirty cheap and thought I wouldn't have any troubles unlocking it. Maybe one day it will be software unlockable like the G2 but for now I'll have to keep using Turbo Sim.

Thanks for offering me to call you, I appreciate it :)

Another one with the same problem.

Verizon didnt want to unlock it.

And ebay codes doesnt work. Anyone could name what ebay sellers tested so we dont have to go through the same sellers?
