Went to play with them. I still think the note series is nicer. they both feel too small to me.

The weird thing about them is that its not really fair to call them 5.8 and 6.2 inches (even though mathematically correct). really they should be called WIDE 5.3 and 5.5 inch screens. i mean, if it was stretched to 10 inches yet only once inch tall, it would be an 11 inch screen, but that wouldnt make it a better viewing experience.

They just feel like iterative changes to the s7.

Camera is good, but pixel still better IMHO.

the worst thing, by far, IMHO is the single firing speaker. I have always had notes, but after the last fiasco went through every device on the market and especially loved the mate 9 and iphone 7 plus (sorry to all here). Once you have stereo speakers you cant go back. thats now become a must have for me. I hope they add to the Note 8.

I wanted to get a new device. Now I dont know what to do!!! :)

For the Plus I'm looking at the extra screen real estate as a bonus. I've got a screen the same width as my long dead Note7 but extra screen length which is good for reading and other scrolling type content. In landscape you get extra width. It is 100% beneficial when you have two apps open at the same time which I do frequently. So nothing lost over my 5.7" Note7 and something gained.

People on the Note7 forum made the S7 Edge appear to be a Model T in comparison when deciding on a Note7 alternative. If the Note7 wasn't perceived as iterative to the S7-Series how can the S8 be? At the end of the day whether Samsung or someone else what's left to do to a rectangular glass-fronted slab that's new and novel? As evolutions go the S8's are far more different based on their lack of bezels and their edge displays. Huawei is doing edge screens and LG is doing bezel-less. Soon there will be multiple bezel-less edge screened phones. Then what? I guess that's why Samsung's working on foldable. ;)

Based on? Both the Exmor and ISOCELL sensors in the S8 are newer versions and it appears Samsung's done some major work on the underlying s/w. We'll see what that brings when more detailed comparisons to other current phones are published.

That's a use case thing. 90% of my speaker use is conference calls and dual speakers and sound enhancements hurt more than they help. My content playback is typically the occasional YouTube video imbedded in a news article or an ad. For serious content I have BT speakers ranging from the pocketable IconX to some pretty high end over the ear BT cans. The value of mobile speakers is very individual and a YMMV.

I thought they had dual/stereo speakers? Using the headset speaker as the 2nd speaker. That has been reported at many sites as a spec. If not, I am disappointed in not having dual speakers especially when it can easily be done with a software tweak.
