Yes, you can. I am on Fi with a Verizon device and I did exactly that without issue.
Did it do anything about letting you unlock the bootloader?

I am having the same issue as the original poster. I also have a Pixel XL from Verizon and have switched to T Mobile. Has anyone figured out how to get the security updates?
Wish I knew what was different with the T-Mobile specific version. I was with Verizon but I'm now with T-Mobile and I'm running the June build of Pure Nexus.
Yeah take the ota every month. Or sideload a signed ota zip in stock recovery. This works on locked and unlocked bootloader's.

Probably the only differences are in the radio and modem files. Why not just fastboot those from the june firmware.
