In various places it has come to my attention those lamenting they cannot root their Verizon Note 3 due to Firmware version. This is likely common knowledge among those in the know, but to many NOOBs like me coming here, it is not so obvious!
The first thing you need is the 0F1 firmware https://stockromupdate.com/2016/06/22/stock-rom-sm-n900v-samsung-galaxy-note-3/
Next you need Odin on your PC http://odindownload.com/
1) Unzip Odin putting the folder somewhere easy to find like the desktop
2) Unzip the 0F1 firmware to the Odin Folder
3) Boot your Verizon Note 3 into Odin mode (Volume Down, Home, and power) using the up volume to get past the warning and actually into download mode
4) Connect your phone to PC using USB connection
5) Launch Odin (You will know it is connected when you get both a blue box in the lower box of the upper row of small boxes and the text box on the lower left says "added"
6) Tick the box next to the AP
7) Click AP and select the 0F1 firmware and let it scan in
8) Click start (If you click before the firmware is accepted, Odin will stop responding)
9) Check your software version after reboot and you will have the 0F1 firmware.
As far as your phone is concerned it simply updated itself. Backing up your data is always recommended, but do not be surprised when all your data and apps remain intact.
Please note Kies (Samsung Smart Switch) can be used as well as Odin, but everything will reset back to factory like it has never been used which may be your choice, thus included.
Smart Switch can be found at http://www.samsung.com/us/smart-switch/
