Easy, killer...

Cool "story" bro
The guy used to work for Sony and Dell (verified) yet you think it's far fetched that when he schooled a VZW manager the manager offered him a position? Way to contribute to the thread (Granted, not much of a theme and app thread to begin with, but still... Bashing an app doesn't mean it should go in the app thread, that's more General or Q&A) lol :slow clap:

Please folks, follow the Thumper rule... "If you can't say somethin' nice (Or constructive/helpful/intelligent/witty/funny/etc), don't say anything at all"

Of course, as we all know, the Android community has become the Android Family and every family has a few uncles like you, kind sir ^_^

This thread is off topic and needs to either be moved or deleted. This is not a race for popularity nor is it a place to bash on other people. We are all here to learn or share not talk s**t. If you don't have anything nice to say please refrain from saying it.

While a agree that a task manager isn't necessary for our phones, it does serve a use. It kills programs that don't shut down when you close them. They remain open in the background until they are force closed by the os when more memory is needed. These running apps require cpu power whether they are in the foreground or the background. More cpu power = more battery drain. Closing them manually every so often keeps them from staying open for days at a time.

But like i said, it definately isn't necessary, but it's far from worthless.

I work for verizon and my store is probably the only one educated on why atk is bad. I even made a print out explaining it to customers. Every time a customer comes in from another store they have atk and I remove it for them. Ppl are ignorant, not dumb ignorant.

Btw side note everybody at my store is rooted and we also root customers phones for $30 and show them how to use wireless tether. In fact today alone I think I rooted two moto droid 2s and a droid x

For that I recommend a free app called system panel. It shows you what is using your cpu, you might be surprised

Real life experience...

Hi All,

I know Android is an awesome OS. I know Linux is an awesome OS. I know people (experts) say ATK isn't necessary and since they're experts, they're always right.

I've had my Incredible since 4/29 - the day they came out.

I've been bummed with an average of 8 hours of "good use" since I had it. My son has the same phone and similar battery life. We turn down the screen, turn off WiFi, blah blah blah to help, play with Juice Plotter, yada yada. Bottom line - after 8 hours I'm in the "red" and need to recharge or it'll shut off.

A month ago, I decide to put on ATK just for the heck of it. BAM! 15 hours of use my first day! A couple days later I texted my son... "1am here and still at 39% battery!" Heck I never made it past 6pm before needing a charge.

I don't care what the "experts" say or the OS zealots. I changed NOTHING but installing ATK and now for the past month my battery life has basically doubled. In fact, I forgot to plug in last week one night and 30 hours later my phone was still running. That was impossible before.

There are no words anyone can write which will change my real-world experience. It WORKS. I did play with setting which apps it killed, level of aggressiveness, etc. but no matter how I use it, it WORKS. Sorry guys.

Just saying I installed ATK the day I got my phone and was getting maybe seven or eight hours out of a charge without anything on and screen brightness down all the way. I uninstalled it and now get a good 10 hours with my screen on auto and I no longer ever turn 3g off. Without it I have more battery life while using features that drain battery. I leave auto brightness 3g and gps on always.

The only problem with your theory is that the background apps are idle thus not using any power unless they are set to sync at regular intervals.

You knowingly void customers warranty as a representative of vzw? And charge them for it. I hope you advise them first. That's kinda messed up.

Please folks, enough with the voided warranty, as we all know rooting is reversible... And if you didn't know that, stop posting and go back to reading for a bit longer...

Honestly, I don't think I would've rooted if it was going to (permanently) void my warranty. ;) haha

As far as ATK is concerned? First thing the rep did when I got my phone was install ATK and instruct me to keep up with using it. I was adamant about it for a while, sometimes waking it up just so I could kill the BS that was running in the background (bloatware and all that jazz). Soon before I rooted, I was reading up about how task killers were unnecessary, deleted it and broke myself of the habit. By now, I'm so far gone from using it that I'm not sure if I gained any battery life or not. What's important to me, though, is that now that I'm not starting ATK up every five minutes to look over the apps and hit "kill," I've got more time to actually USE my phone!
