Very disappointed in OP3t battery life. Not sure what to do.

Hi, @SlimJ87D - Sure, I tried running stock OOS 4.0.3 on my phone before trying anything else. My wife's phone. too. I even waited a few days, just to get a clear picture. The standby battery drain was really bad on both.

Thus, this thread. I'm an engineer, and I'm a firm believer in the Scientific Method. I change one variable, and measure the results to see if there is any resulting effect. That's generally what I have been doing. This thread has been running for a few weeks now, so I have had a lot of time to try stuff out.

So far, the best I have seen for standby battery has been with FreedomOS 1.3, and a very minimal installation. For example, here is all I had installed when I started taking readings:

Things were looking more promising after the install. Here is a screenshot from last night's battery drain:

Things were looking more promising after the install. Here is a screenshot from last night's battery drain:

Before installing Freedom OS, my battery drain would have been about 4% for the time shown, and now I am seeing 1% over 4 hours. That's the best I have seen on the OP3T so far.

I have started to - slowly - add some of my usual apps back into the mix, staying away from any apps that use the internet at this point. None of those apps have noticeably impacted my standby drain.

So, I took made a TWRP backup to have a good baseline to return to for future testing.

After that TWRP backup, I installed Franco Kernel r12.

For the first time, I saw standby currents as low as -11 mA, and sometimes extended stretches of -18 mA.

While I have cut back a lot of functionality that I need to slowly bring back to the mix, I'm feeling more hopeful about things now. :)
Wish you luck :D

Hi, @nano303 - The OP currently has a 1+ year-old work iPhone and currently owns a Samsung Galaxy Tab S.

My iPhone 6S loses about 3% a day when unused (I'm still on OSX 9.x due to work requirements. I heard that OSX 10 has new battery issues). I don't really care how much battery my iPhone uses, since I don't use it much (not sure why people think Apple phones are so great - they certainly aren't easier to use, and almost always require more button presses than Android to do the same thing). Work will replace it eventually, so not a big deal. However, I did do some setting adjustments to the un-jailbreakable iPhone to get better battery life so it would comfortably make it through the day.

My 2+ year old Samsung Galaxy Tab S is running Schischu's excellent Marshmallow ROM, and currently loses < 2% a day when unused.

I did have a Galaxy S3 a while back, and it took a few ROMs before better battery life came along. Fortunately, the Galaxy S3 had an easily replaceable battery, so battery drain wasn't as much of a concern.

What I have discovered is that when mobile phones aren't designed with user battery replacement, very few - or, no - options exist for purchasing a quality replacement battery. There aren't any quality OnePlus One replacement BLP571 batteries available in the US (though, there is apparently one manufacturer in Germany who doesn't ship to the US). So, fully-functional mobile phones get thrown away for the most unnecessary reason of all: the battery died. The OP3T has really good hardware (if this battery thing gets figured out). If I could keep ours running and just replace the battery every 3-4 years, that would be great - I don't think there are any real hardware upgrades in the future that would incentivize me to replace.

Yep - The OP3T is a $440 phone. So, as I mentioned above, I buy two phones when family replacements occur: One(Plus) for me, and One(Plus) for my wife. So, that's $880 when we replace. I expect that OnePlus will continue slowly increasing their phone prices as they gain more recognition, so that dollar amount is likely to increase next time.

Now, with regards to getting better standby battery on the OP3T, I have made some progress ... I reinstalled FreedomOS 1.3 for the OP3T, and trimmed things back quite a bit with the Aroma installer to see what is possible for a baseline. I'm seeing about 0.2%/hour battery drain when in standby. I will provide more details and updates later today.
Any special tweak to get that 0,2%/hour in standby? I lost a 13% at night in about 6/7 hours which results ina 2%. I have one core off and my phone underclock which should help to get that performance but I'm not even near to those numbers.

Thank you very much in advance

Hi, @Pavononer23 - I'll try to get some installation tips together for you (and, for anyone else interested) tonight.

I figured out my battery drain issues was all related to how i was charging my phone

1 ) i would turn off phone and plug charger up to 100% turn on phone with charger still plugged in. I wouldn't remove charger until phone is booted up.
This caused power service manager to keep the phone awake for the entire day, killing my battery up to 20% an hour on idle.

Make sure you are not booting up the phone with it plugged into charger, plug it in after it boots up.

Will you make it in a different post or inside this one?
Maybe it is useful for more people!
Thank you very much
Probably inside this one - I may update the first post.

Sorry it is taking a little bit longer - I have had my battery life regress, and I'm trying to track it down before I put out my suggestions.

I was not able to get reliably good battery life on 4.0.3, so I wasn't sure I should post anything about a partial solution.

Here's a noteworthy update: I did a total wipe install of OOS 4.1.0, and my idle battery life has significantly improved ... all my normal apps are installed, too - without Greenify installed.

I am now seeing 2% battery drain overnight (8 hours). Battery Monitor Widget shows 28 to 39 mA/h consistent drain overnight now - not as low as I would like, but it isn't randomly jumping up to 150+ mA/h anymore like it used to on 4.0.3.

The better idle current drain may come at price, though. I believe that many services are being delayed until the phone is turned back on. For example, I have not heard some text messages or seen emails from Outlook until I turn my phone back on. The emails I'm fine with, but not happy about the potentially delayed text messages.

I'll be watching closely to see if things are working mostly OK.

You stole my thunder. :p

Just kidding, but you're absolutely correct. I'm waiting to get my OP3T and then I will write a tutorial for users to help them out with the battery. Those 2 apps will be in my tut along with a few others that are helpful!
Did you ever write this tutorial? I have a 3T for 2 months. It was great at first because a single charge would easily last 1-2 days but now I have to charge it 3 times a day and I only use the phone moderately.

Google Play Services is using 31% of the battery.

That's terrible.

My Nexus 5x with stock settings would drain 1% every 5 hours at worst (if not using it)

Inviato dal mio ONEPLUS A3003 utilizzando Tapatalk
In fairness, the conditions I described were while I'm at work, with Bluetooth on and crap data signal.

At home I lose maybe 1 to 2 percent when I sleep. I sleep for 10+ hours.

Thanks for reminding me. I got a little sidetracked, but yes, I will still write up this tut. In fact I'm optimizing my battery a bit as we speak, so once I finish this I'll write everything up. I ran into a bit of trouble, but got it sorted out now and so far everything is great!

I'm coming from a OnePlus One. Unfortunately, I can't find reliable BLP571 replacement batteries in the U.S., so I purchased a new OP3t.

On the OPO, I have been running custom MM and N-based ROMs. When the OPO (currently running Nougat 7.1.1 on TugaPower 2.1) is sitting around doing nothing, I typically see my idle battery current drain at around 9 uA to 14 uA and Wakelocks around 10%. Of course, when I turn the screen on, these jump up.

On the OP3t, I have tried running both OOS 3.5.4 and the new TugaPower 4.0 (which is based on Nougat 7.1.1). When the OP3t is supposedly doing nothing, I saw an idle current of around 85 mA on OOS 3.5.4, and around 35 mA on TugaPower. I didn't check the Wakelocks on OOS 3.5.4, but the Wakelocks on TugaPower are around 93% awake time (!!!!).

When I wake up in the morning, the OP3t is down to around 75% battery. For reference, my OPO used to be around 98% overnight when the battery was new. Even now, my ancient OPO with a nearly useless battery is around 85% for the same overnight time period.

What can I do?
I agree with you OPO is the Best compared to the Battery Life Which I am getting in OP3T :crying: ,, Literally Started hating this Phone... Waiting for the Hardware Update Patch for this Phone.. Hopefully that should fix it ... I never Expected an AMOLED Battery Behavior would be this Pathetic :( :crying: :(

It's simply the unique combination of user apps and settings causing these issues. I get 0% drain overnight with everything on (wifi, cell radio, and sync) I just turn off the screen and we both sleep like babies all night long. I get double to triple the battery life compared to any phone I've ever had.

I was exactly like you. Now I clean flashed 4.1.0 and I'm getting really bad battery life, I clean flashed like 4 times and same. Now I flash 4.1.1 and still the same (1st cycle). I was getting 6-7 hours of sot. Now I can't get 4, weird. Same apps and config.

Sorry you got that new and improved Nougat battery upgrade

Got the 4.1.1 OTA yesterday and now the battery drain is really bad, about 3x faster than before. Loved it before. Also gets slightly warmer. Can't see any oddities in app battery behavior. :(
