[VIDEO GUIDE] FULL S-OFF ROOT for Evo SHIFT. Froyo (2.2) + Gingerbread (2.3.3+2.3.4)

I cannot move this to the Rom Thread. But if your issue does not get resolved after a Full Wipe, and Flash. You can post up on the Rom thread HERE for more help to resolve it ;) .
Was able to get the Bluetooth issue resolved without having to do a Full Wipe, and Flash. Turns out all I had to do was a reset of the BlueAnt device and all is well. I wanted to put this reply up on the Rom thread, but I'm to new to the site (10 post rule?) and was denied. Anyway, everything is now functional. I am, however, seeing a little bug when I power off/reboot the phone. Several of the various app icons on my screens revert to a standard android icon instead of the actual app icon. It does this to the same apps each time and when I reset them with the correct icon, they stay that way until I power off/reboot. Don't know what is up with that, but I'll search around to see if this has been addressed before. Again, I thank you for your help. :)

CID Incorrect

I can write the misc.img file, md5sum checks out that it's written correctly. Pull the battery and boot into hboot.
The md5sum for the PG06IMG.zip also checks out, loads, checks.
Then the phone reports a "CID Incorrect" "Update fail" error.
What does that mean and how do i fix it? Thank you!

bootloader reads: locked oow, speedy xf ship s-on, hboot-0.99.0001, radio-1.08.01.0111

Forgive me if this has been posted somewhere else. I've been reading this thread for a week or two. I do have my Evo rooted on 2.2. My questions: How can I upgrade back to 2.3.4 and stay rooted? I know this may seem to defeat the purpose of rooting but I'm just curious.

This is definitely possible, just newSense (its based on 2.3.4 gingerbread) or flash strapped365's stock rooted OTA rom (its based on the most recent update)

You could also flash Chad the pathfinder's Stock Mod, which is based on strapped365's rooted OTA

The way I'm reading your post, I'm assuming you have gone through all the steps in the 'guide' and have just rooted your phone and have not as yet flashed a new ROM to your device. If this is the case, then just flash a new ROM (I'll suggest the 'Supreme Sense' ROM found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1201233 ). Once installed you'll be at 2.3.4 and still rooted.

Thanks for the help. I ended up going with newSense and I'm happy with that. Now I'm running into another problem:

I had to unroot back to stock 2.3.4 to take my phone to the Sprint store. I did all that successfully. Now I'm back home trying to root again. I've successfully downgraded back to 2.2, but when I try to get temproot with Visionary, it just sits there forever and will not go through. Any suggestions?

Nevermind. Did a factory reset and and then visionary worked properly. Screwy phones.

I dont know if you what method you were using to root, but you didnt have to do a factory reset to fix it lol
Go to the thread thats linked in my sig and read the FAQ, theres another fix for that in there (that doesnt wipe data)

ALSO, there are a lot of Sense 2.1 skins over here that you might wanna check out

I used the method in this thread, of course ;) I had downgraded to 2.2, and Visionary would not run. I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, same thing. Then I just went into setting and did factory reset (which didn't matter because it was just stock 2.2 with nothing changed yet), reinstalled Visionary, and it worked. I don't know why? Oh well.

Then I ran into another issue, which is water under the bridge now though. Clockword wouldn't load my backup, kept giving me md5 sum mismatch. I googled and found several different "fixes" for this, none of which worked for me. I just deleted the backup and installed a fresh copy of the rom I was using, and set it back up myself. Blah.

BUT, I will be getting my phone replaced Tuesday for a hardware issue and I will be trying your Shift ROOTility. Thanks for the heads up.

Okay. SO I had to take my NEWLY replaced Shift back to Sprint because the wifi antenna was extremely weak. So I'm following this guide again to root; successfully downgraded to 2.2; but when I try to temproot with Visionary, the progress icon just keeps on swirling and nothing happens. I cycled power on the phone, I uninstalled Visionary and reinstalled, I've done almost everything that I know how to do. This is the second time it's done that to me, and somehow the first time it eventually went through (see above).

What is causing this? I just followed the 'unroot back to stock' thread to put my phone back on 2.3.4 so I wouldn't be on 2.2. Any help is greatly appreciated.

So are you now Rooted?

TEAM MiK
MikROMs Since 3/13/11
Yes sir. Been rooted like 3 different times now - had to undo it to take my phone into the Sprint store. But twice, in this process, Visionary wouldn't work for me. Upgraded back to 2.3.4 and followed the steps again and it worked. Who knows? Atleast I'm rooted. :good:
