This guide worked perfectly for me. But now, a month or so later, I noticed I don't have root anymore. I'm still on 2.2. Has anyone else had this happen? What's the quickest way for me to root my phone again, or do I have to start over from scratch again?

Thanks

I should note the phone still has S-OFF and Clockwork Recovery there and everything seems to be fine. But when I run Temp Root/Perm Root in Visionary+, it doesn't appear to do anything.

That says "flash the zip then auto reboot you to recovery to make sure it flashed successfully." which sounds like it requires me to flash my phone again, which erases everything correct? I am hoping there is a way to fix this without completely wiping my phone. Am I just misunderstanding what that program does?

Thank you

If your S-Off, CWM Recovery installed. Do you have SU in the app drawer? Visionary wouldn't look like it's doing anything if your already Rooted.

It does not erase anything.

Here we go again. I had to unroot my phone to take it to the sprint store. Got back home trying to root it again, I can downgrade to 2.2 with no issues but visionary will not temp root. It goes to the temproot screen and just sits there. I've tried airplane mode, cycling power, upgrade to 2.3.4 and back down to 2.2. Visionary just will not work. What the hell am I missing? Do I have a bad download of visionary or something? Help because this stock rom is kiillllling me lol

heres an odd little quirk i noticed. i cant seem to flash PG06IMG files anymore in bootloader. it refuses to see them. simple fix to just redo the misc.img and eng bootloader without having to go back to stock and reroot?

I know it's a dumb question. But are you making sure they're not named zip zip? Did you reformat your SD Card?

yeah, tripled checked and reformatted not too long ago. ive checked and tried everything that we all normally tell each other, the only thing i havent done yet is just flash the eng bootloader again.

edit: lmao just checked again for sh!ts and g!ggles, zips are fine, sdcard is fine. ill prolly just try reflashing the eng bootloader again later

You could try that. Or just unroot back to 2.2. Then start the whole Root process over. Kind of like a Super clean wipe. I had to do it on my Shift a couple of times. Just from flashing so many Rom, Recoveries, Kernels and Test Stuff. Always fixed any wierdness I had going on.

yeah, with all the crap i flash on this thing thats probably what its going to come down to but figured id see if anyone else has had this happen with the bootloader and if so they can get the answer as well. it hasnt been fully redone since i unrooted to gamble on 2.3.4 when it first was released so im overdue anyhow.

Shouldn't be a big issue. Just a refresher course on Rooting the Shift ;) . Every time you Root it's slightly different. But despite that, it's what makes it fun.

Ok, having trouble with the ENG HBoot.

I just recently picked up a Shift off ebay (shouldn't have sold mine), because I just miss the compact size and my Galaxy SII is a battery hog. Anyway, trying to root this, and I've gotten back to Froyo and am trying to dd the hboot.

I temp rooted with Visionary (confirm su gives me # prompt in terminal emulator), verified the hboot_eng.nb0 and hboot_orig.bin md5's, ran the dd if=/sdcard/hboot_eng.nb0 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 command, dd'ed it back to a hboot_check.nb0 file, and the check file has the same md5 as the orig.bin. IE, the dd command to dump the engineering HBoot isn't actually writing to the block.

I don't know if it's a symptom of the same issue or not, but I'm also getting a "not permited!" (yes, spelled with only one t) when I issue any reboot commands from terminal as well.

Thoughts?

I'm doing this all from terminal because ADB won't recognize the phone (prob. a driver issue - anything other than htc sync I need installed?)
