Trying to root from 2.3.4. The link in step 10 is broken. I'm also a little bit confused about why it's necessary to install SU in this manner AND download it from the market. I'm also relatively certain SU doesn't give you root on its own; it just helps keep you from doing anything regrettable once you have it, right? Just read over the SU main website and I think I get it now; the app is a way of managing what the su binary (the zip file) does, and people don't talk about the su binary as much because the assumption is that you already have a rooted phone, which would already have it installed. The link on the site for older versions is broken, so I suspect that's where the file the article originally linked to was, but would one of the .zips on the SU main site function correctly in its stead? Nope, back to not understanding.

Just to see if there were any other issues I followed the instructions up to that point, and had no trouble. The only other currently broken link I noticed was for Visionary, and since I'm relatively certain I know what Visionary is doing there from other readings I also feel reasonably certain that if I find it elsewhere I will be able to make it work, but if someone wants to provide a replacement link for that too it'd be much appreciated.

I'd also appreciate links to Shift-compatible rooting tools. I did see the link to Shift ROOTility but couldn't figure out where the download link for the tool itself was, and at least at first glance it doesn't seem to be significantly simpler than these instructions. It's possible I need to step away from this whole project for a bit and come back when I'm more focused. Oh my god I'm dense, ignore this, on a related note I'm not doing anything related to rooting my phone until I have had a sufficient amount of sleep to read a basic outline.

(I've never done anything like this before. The sum of my software-side technical skills are a basic familiarity with Linux terminal commands, the barest smidgen of Ruby, and a great deal of patience + decent reading comprehension when following other peoples' guides, and only the last one is relevant here. All I want is to get the metric ton of pointless bloatware off my phone. Hope nobody minds the thread resurrection.)

Thanks in advance. I need all the help I can get.
