MD5 Fail / Bad 2.2 Downgrade

I am having the following issue:

When I enter the following command to replace the original hboot

dd if=/sdcard/hboot_eng.nb0 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18

everything appear correct but the hboot md5 sum never matches and if I reboot I never get the s-off

both of these md5 sums match
md5sum /sdcard/hboot_orig.bin
md5sum /sdcard/hboot_eng.nb0

not sure why it isn't working.
This is what I get from the command prompt

# dd if=/sdcard/hboot_eng.nb0 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
dd if=/sdcard/hboot_eng.nb0 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
2048+0 records in
2048+0 records out
1048576 bytes transferred in 0.193 secs (5433036 bytes/sec)
# dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 of=/sdcard/hboot_check.nb0
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 of=/sdcard/hboot_check.nb0
2048+0 records in
2048+0 records out
1048576 bytes transferred in 0.134 secs (7825194 bytes/sec)
# md5sum /sdcard/hboot_check.nb0
md5sum /sdcard/hboot_check.nb0

I Had this same issue, I followed the steps in getting my phone to downgrade from 2.3.4 to 2.2 and continued to do as you said checking the md5- However, when I got the same error I went backwards to see where I failed. Turns out the 2.2 downgrade didn't stick. I have "full" root access, however I havent acheved S-off. I don't know if the files are corrupt or if its that im not useing a "new" SD card. I'm more than likely going to go out purchace a new card and start from scatch.... Unless someone can convince me otherwise... lol

As I stated above I would try running the 2.2 RUU .exe again. Did you try running it from Fastboot? Did you run the exe , or the PG06IMG to try and RUU to 2.2 ? If you think there's something wrong with your SD Card. You can try SD Formatter. It's worth a shot, instead of running out and buying a new card. I've it attached it below.

Just wanted to take a moment to thank you Vicodan for the extremely detailed and thorough guide. I did get stuck in the beginning where I could not flash the recovery from adb because my pc stopped recognizing the phone while in fastboot. I had to uninstall/re-install HTC sync AND the driver installer. After that it worked like a charm. Thanks again! :D

I went back and wiped my phone... the card everyhting and watched the VIDEOS. Successful S-off and Perm root W/ CM7!

HOWEVER! This document should be rewritten, the guide alone is good but it has too many flaws, following the guide as I did the first time you will run into problems. There are to many steps left out and commands that should have been explained.

For example after downgradeing from 2.3.4 to 2.2 you need to reflash the boot loader. This is not in the instructions, nor is the command to do so...

I'm not trying to nock the guide at all because I would not have been able to ROOT without it, I'm only trying to warn others that the VIDEOS will help out allot.

Don't think it'll help much. I pointed out some failed commands before and it took about a month to fix it in the guide.

But you are right that it should be updated.
