I had the crackling on my n6 with the previous version. It was worse when screen was on and it wasn't caused by screen off max freq. I had to revert unfortunately

I am having a problem with crackling audio with viper/audio. It gets worse when I have it running with Dolby Atmos. If I turn off viper the crackling goes away, it is not present when Dolby Atmos is running by itself or I turn both off. I have tried this with 3 different music players, GoneMad, PlayerPro and USB Audio Pro with the same result. It is worse with earphones than it is with the speakers on the phone. I have a Nexus 6P running pure nexus with systemless root running elementalx kernel. It has been like this with all the different combinations I could come up with on what I am using. Any help would be appreciated.
I believe the ElementalX kernel boosts the audio output. I would try a Kernel that does not boost the audio output as well as not having Faux Sound included.

i have given up , as it wont install on my nexus 6 . will keep my eye on this as it sounds like a cool mod
Error in TWRP? I'm willing to help you achieve a complete installation whenever you're ready to try again.

guitardedhero, words can't describe what i feel after installing your mod. Sound is so crisp and powerfull. I'm on CM12.1 Jiayu G4S using ViPERAtmos 3.7 Beats Huawei Edition.
Also I prefer BBE Generic Preset 2.irs convolver but it's my personal taste :) Thank you very much for bringing all mods in one single zip :) You did a great job :)
Thank you very much!

Hi folx, hi @guitardedhero ,

First of all i'm a big fan of your work :D and i follow your posts around Viper4Android for a while now. Therefore i have to ask myself when do you guy sleep ;)

Lately i experienced the above mentioned problem. If a call or a notification arives there is a loud crackingsound before the linked sound was played. Never experienced it before - So i have some assumptions, but at the moment my time is a little limited to proceed some tests, if time comes i try:

  1. The additional Beats / Huawei files cause this problem
  2. It's an audiofocus problem
  3. or the ogg files for the notificationssounds have a non fitting format

The last one could not be valid due tot the fact that it is played.

To test if the additonial are the problem i have to install a version without these files, but i have to remove all aditional files manually or restore an old backup of system-partition.
But first i try to patch audio_police.conf with your proposed adjustment.

Are there any other tipps around ? I haven't found any proposals concerning my problem...

THX in advance

Rhonin
You might try a kernel without audio boost or Faux Sound if your current kernel contains either.

he just updated it v7.0.3
im back from vacations
i am still using ur 2.0 build (atmos) which was clubed with his 6.0 old build with his custom audiofx, and it was good.
checking the changlog of ur latest build, i see no new xtrememusic builds.

can u just make ur next build with his v7.0.3 build and ur work together.
or just tell me ur latest builds are included with his work?

yes, can u tell me flashing his latest build is ok - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24345424848488090
cos i am assured of ur work with him.

device - oneplus one - cm12.1 sultan caf builds.
After 6.0, I could not achieve a complete installation to my standards and had to abandon it to avoid confusion and issues with his users. I'll be more than happy to create a build with 7.0.3 if you would like. Just let me know if you want Dolby Atmos™ as part of the package or not. I'll be working most of the day and will have a build just for you sometime this evening (-06:00 Central Standard Time).

So I have flashed the Viper|Atmos 3.7 Beats Huawei version and everything seems to be working beautifully.

I am familiarizing myself with all the obvious Viper settings in its app and likewise those in the Atmos app. I see the Audiophile profile and the DFX impulse files and have those available. I am curious, though, how do the Beats and Huawei files manifest their functions? I see no apps or settings pages for them. Are they just loaded and working in the background making everything better somehow?

Pardon me if this question is answered here elsewhere already.
Beats™ and Huawei™ processing is called into action by audio_effects.conf.

Try a Kernel without audio boost and/or Faux Sound. If using Dolby Atmos™, be sure Sourround Virtualizer and Volume Leveler are both turned off.

Sry - though i haven't unlocked my bootloader i'm not able to use another kernel atm.

I'm not sure if this stock-kernel is able to handle init.d scripts - will investigate so maybe i can deactivate your mentioned kernel properties...

THX again

@guitardedhero been following this thread for a few weeks and I just wanted to say that you are the standard when it comes to being a developer here. I've never seen an OP go above and beyond to help users, all the while keeping such a positive vibe. Phenomenal work with V4A but even better is ur awesome attitude. Thanks much for your hard work dude.
Thank you so much for such a high praise! Your comments truly mean a lot to me and make this an even more enjoyable experience for me. I've always believed that one's attitude can be contagious and I never forget that I was once a new member overwhelmed with all the information and content XDA provides. You will never read a response from me saying, "Search the thread" or "That's already been answered a hundred times" as I know your time is valuable and I am privileged just to get a little piece of that time. I've seen so many threads and users to the contrary and I swore that if I was ever in charge of a thread then it would be my mission to make it the most informative and pleasant experience for all who choose to participate.

Wipe System in TWRP and dirty flash your rom. Your file you shared does not reflect that is it contains a maxxaudio entry not provided by any ViPER package.

I understood you, I still recommend opening Dolby Atmos™ and making sure Volume Leveler is off. I still think you should give ViPER|Audio™ a try.
You previously helped me get this setup by having me delete viper folders in data/app. I'm trying to do this again, but it will not let me delete anything.

There are no viper files in root/data/app
On my internal memory, there is a 3 meg folder. I cannot delete this:

"Sounds like my zip did not delete a previous v4a install. If you have a copy of a compatible rom zip do this:

Delete any folder with viper in the name in /data/app

Boot to recovery
Wipe > Advanced > System, Dalvik Cache, Cache
Mount > uncheck System
Install > rom zip
Reboot

Check for sufficient free space in /system

Boot to recovery
Wipe > Advanced > Dalvik Cache, Cache
Install > ViPER zip
Wipe > Advanced > Dalvik Cache, Cache
Reboot"

Seconding Koudies' praise here.

I'm a longtime member of XDA and probably fall between a noobie and skilled user. In general I do a pretty good job at doing a little research, some searching, etal. Sometimes though - things are just confusing and there can be so much 'noise' in these threads - that you just need to ask a basic question to get on track. Also, the search capabilities in XDA aren't great - if you know exactly what you are looking for they are fine but if you need to do a contextual search - pretty rough. Pouring through a list of search results is like searching through a needle in a haystack.
In some of the other forums I participate in the responses to what are perceived as stupid questions or someone being 'lazy' - are downright nasty, don't those responders know they are only embarrassing themselves? Certainly there are participants who don't deserve much help (they've done zero research and/or don't have the capabilities to be modding their device)... and if that really gets under your skin, JUST IGNORE THEM. But if you have enough time to rip them apart, you had enough time to point them to some help or kindly tell them they aren't ready to do mods or whatever.... or send them a PM! Getting nasty... just no time for it. The nasty replies are more harmful than the lazy and/or ignorant questions. In one forum in particular - I've become afraid to ask a question because some dev may decide I'm an idiot and rip me a new one.

So we should shine a light on this forum, and hold it up as a model for others to follow. That said - Guitardehero goes WAY above and beyond the highest of expectations - but it is highly appreciated and needs to be acknowledged!

I'm getting the same problems as the guy from a few pages back. Did a full clean flash today, dolby still seems to not work. V4A works whilst in compatibility mode, but when checking driver, says it's not enabled. On S6 with permissive linux, root etc

I flashed the latest 3.7 zip on my 6p and I have everything working except the audiophile profile is not in viper. I followed the steps in the OP, but I must be doing something wrong.

Audio profile is not included in that zip. I am also on a 6p so go back 18 hours or so and look for the 37ap version. Or, you can Manually download and extract and copy the profiles. To be sure where they go, save a dummy profile in v4a (content is moot, just give it an easy name to find such as 'zzzzz') search for it in your file manager of choice, and copy those extracted profiles there.
