Vivo Nex review: Frustratingly imperfect, undeniably desirable

Pros:

Futuristic bezel-free design
Solid OLED display
Competitive camera
Excellent performance
Eye-catching camera mechanism
22.5W fast charging support
Really good wired audio

Cons:

Problematic software
China-only release
Under-performing battery
Unreliable fingerprint scanner
No IP rating, NFC, wireless charging

Well as everyone imagine i'm not surprised from their observation.

Really good hardware with problematic software experience.

One nagative that didn't expect was that AOD does not support third party app notification but only limited stock app.
no NFC this is problematic

What do you usually use it for?

On my case, I didn't really use NFC that much since HTC One X days. Maybe only for pairing via superbeam or android beam but other than that, i don't really have any use of it.
The NFC hype just didn't live up on China.

OK I found a way to fix that. It's not elegant, but it seems to work so far.

When the orange red notice on top, force close Vivo apps, clear data and viola! The notice is gone.

Is this a single app/something in the app drawer?

EDIT: @kwongwt
I found it, the app responsible for the red banner is WISDOM ENGINE , a system app, not found in the app drawer/desktop.

EDIT #2 WISDOM. ENGINE isn't the one, still stuck with the red warning banner...

In Hong Kong we can use nfc for public transport, carparks and eat in samaller resturants. Electronic payment is also accepted in supermarkets and convinient stores. Androud pay and Samsung pay are quite commonly used.

It China electronic payment with phones is actually more common than cash now. However, they use bar codes so there is no use for nfc.

Yes, buddy. My bad, you can also stop the app "vivo service" from "applucations" then "all" and clear its data. The dreadful orange notice reappeared this morning and I have to do it again.

As I said, its not elegant but a temporary fix.

Yeah, even alipay was working on NFC support at first, but... barcode is still "easier" for the masses. Also more economical, no need to buy NFC reader device.
Iphone also contributed to this with no NFC support at the time.

How's your vivo btw? Anything you don't like ?

That did the trick, THANK YOU!
BTW, what I originally thought was the fix, turned out that wasn't it & I've since edited my post.
I'm using a new theme & the Developer Options toggle is shaded green when it is off, it wasn't until after I went back into Developer Options that I realized my "fix" wasn't the fix, sorry about that & once again, Thank You for following up on this, I appreciate it! ? ✌

I hate the OS. Its too restrictive and iphone-ish. Even Greenify is not working properly without the force close Vivo service trick.

Besides no nfc, no wireless charge and no external storage hardware is excellent. But if you use VR a lot I think something with a 2K screen would be better.

Have you tried to remove em by adb?
Not yet, maybe I will try this on the weekends.

I'm considering that, but I need it's management engine to restrict background data of some apps, so I need to be more careful in choosing which apps to uninstall. A better solution is of course to root the phone and use titanium backup to feeze apps. But until Someone comes out with a root solution, I think I have to live this dreadful software by using temporary fixes.

Did they remove the orange notification of developers option after the last patch? I haven't received that notice for a couple of days now even after I change staff in the developer's options.

I still had it,it shows up after every reboot, but,I just wiped data &/or forced closed the VIVO Service app,per your previous instructions.
I can live w/that,wondering if the same will be on the Oppo Find x...............

Damn, I thought they've removed that since I complained in their vivo forum lol. Anyways I used to get that every time I access the dev options menu but it did not pop up after the last update.

Btw my OS version now is 1.15.7
