Question Vivo x90 pro+ vs S23U

Impossible to find a plug anywhere on a mountain hut in Taiwan. Only very few have battery packs for some lights at night but never allowed to charge your phone.

Or trekking in Nepal often no charging, sometimes single charge cost like 5 Euros. No wonder now many carry a solar charging mat.
So only solution is power bank, but I prefer to go light and the phone should really make it 4-5 days hiking and taking pictures in airplane mode. At home/stationary the X90pp is much better than my P30 pro. It's while in my pocket doing sports that I hate the drain. But that's when it's most important to me. When I simply cannot charge!

Next week I go hiking or better trail running for 5 days and will not be able to charge at all. I will instead use my old p30pro because the X90pp would fail on me if I take some pictures.. don't want to carry both phones or a power bank because it's 145km in 5 days and my baggage needs to be below 8kg including food, sleeping bag and other things to make it. No charging no nothing...

I had 1 day with less than 4 hours the X90pp fail on me. Since I disabled google photos instant sync I make it through any day. But never managed 2 days without airplane mode during the day!

I'd say you are in quite a unique situation. For 99.9% of users, trekking without charging access even from a powerbank is not a scenario they are going to experience. This is an anecdotal example.

I have linked the vivo account too. I debloated a lot, but had to restore phone, i-manager and appstore after the phone started to act weird after software update (at time of debloat it was all fine).

You first need to check whether the power use is from standby or screen on.

If I am at home standby is like 0.5-1% per hour. If I'm on the move 1.5-3% per hour - always on mobile data.
One hour surfing with chrome and Adguard enabled (that makes a big difference) is 8-10% on 4G, 6-7% on wifi.

So reaching 10 hours SOT I've never managed. That would only be possible as a couch potato on my phone so to say. I think Maximum is 8.5 hours without wifi.

Camera use sucks the battery badly. 25% for stock camera per hour, 20% for gcam. Mind that is with google photo sync off. It I enable that add 5% per hour because as I've often documented mobile data sucks the battery empty, even more with bad reception.
So 3.45-11 hours within 18 hours all is possible just depends on how I use it.
S23U would be 6-13.5 hours on similar usage, because mobile data works much better, standby drain is better and the battery a little bit bigger.

The screen is really efficient. Hats of to Samsung E6. Even with high brightness in the sun it's still really reasonable. Like 12-13% surfing in Chrome outdoors on a really sunny day (yeah try to hold phone in the shadow of course). That's not a huge change to the 8-10% in low light!

Last night around midnight it showed 6 30h screentime at 18% before going to sleep which seemed about right compared to phone stats and that was on wifi the whole day but at 5 am the battery dropped to 12% while sleeping and accubattery showed 7 30h screentime while the entire night the screen was off, it added 1 hour of screentime out of nowhere.
So basically even tho accubattery estimates a full charge having around 9h screentime , i feel that in real usage i can squeeze max 7 hours on a very optimistic day but more like 6 hours+.
I have sleep mode disabled since it seems to turn wifi off during night messing my home automation .

The battery life on my Vivo is better than my previous phone, Huawei P30 pro.
Regardless of your experience, I simply don't believe you can't get through a day on a full charge, even with heavy use. And I find it even less believable that you don't have any charging option at any point during the day/evening.
If you are such a heavy user that battery is drained within a 12-hour day, surely you will also be smart enough to carry a charger.

I don't consider myself a heavy user at all, i don't even play games, my screen is on 1080p and refresh rate on smart but i feel they really screwed the battery time on this phone.
I came from a p40 pro and this phone same battery life as the 2 year old battery on my p40 pro which is about 6.5h screen time from 100% to 15-20%.
Contrary my wife's s23 ultra loses only 2-3% per night compared with 8-9% on my vivo and last time i checked she had 48 hours since last charge with 8 30h screen time and still 34% battery left, basically my wife can charge her s23ultra every 3 days as a light user so 2 days battery is realistic on samsung as a normal user. They have same cpu, same screen power consumption and only a small 300 mAh difference yet samsung gives 60-70% more battery life while i was expecting only 10-15% gain on samsung so vivo fcked up really hard somewhere otherwise is a better phone than s23 ultra in most aspects but this huge battery life difference starts to even things out .
Now i'll just have to deal with it for 2 years and for sure won't buy a vivo again without watching a battery drain test on youtube, i was afraid this was going to happen but was optimistic that the gen 2 and bigish battery would give excellent battery life.
Sure it can last the entire day while home but it forces me to charge to 100% instead of 80% and while traveling and being without wifi and in areas with bad signal it wont last for a day.

Btw does anyone know why i can't disable fast charging?on global version it has a toggle to do it. I am forced to use another charger as i can't charge slow with original charger as i want fast charging only when in a hurry to preserve battery life.

I'm really satisfied with Vivo's battery so I suppose you must have some problems with your phone configuration. My phone's battery lasts almost 2 days.

The battery drain tests on youtube tell you nothing much about real life. They only tell you about how much discharge is likely on high power app use.

BTW - the Honor Magic 5 Pro aced those youtube drain tests - but now seems to fail in real life tests like gsmarena!
And dxomark gives the asnwer directly why it aced those game/benchmark heavy drain tests - because it throttled way more than any other SD8Gen2 phone. If one phone has twice the refresh rate in a game vs another one - it's the same time span but not the same amount of work done.


GSMArena battery rating is about as good as it gets. Also pretty realistic are the DXOMark on the go tests. Just note that the DXOMark battery rating has like 50% charging performance inbuilt - so you need to look into the detailed scores.


I haven't noticed accubattery adding hours - but that would explain quite a lot too, hahah.

X90PP or X90Pro has no battery review on DXOmark, but Xiaomi 13 Pro got added very recently too. The X80 Pro the last vivo Flagship did very poorly on the autonomy tests.

gsmarena only shows the non plus version which has different battery size and different cpu so results are not relevant , can't understand why they fail to test a flagship but test other ****ty phones.
Eventually i might do a hard reset and start slowly adding stuff so i can monitor exactly at what point the battery drain starts but i have a feeling it won't solve anything

The x90 pro and the x90 pro + had virtually identical battery use on notebookcheck - though without explanation notebookcheck left out the interesting battery tests for them. Then vivo announces actually better battery life for x90 and x90 pro vs pro+ in their specs. X90 vanilla according to Chinese reviews is clearly better in real life than x90 pro+... They botched some things for sure on vivo side.
I don't think dxomark will add battery tests for vivo. Not sure why but vivo is the brand they leave out very often on battery tests.

yeah sorry but now i'm pretty sure accubattery shows fake numbers and i think all of you using that app are confused and need to test this properly because it shows over 10h on a full charge for me too but in reality that number is more like 6-7 hours screentime.
As i said earlier, overnight where it loses 10%(which is insane btw, last phone that lost that much on idle was a s10 with exynos crap), accubattery reported 1h 30 min extra screentime WHILE THE SCREEN WAS COMPLETLY OFF for the entire night and I am pretty sure it pumps the number during the day too where is harder to notice. So i suggest doing the same test as me and screenshot the screentime before going to sleep and right after you wake up and see if the screentime remained the same or is pumped like mine.

If you charge your phone before going to bed then unplug you may have 0% .

(Not that this is anyway correct but the calibration off the battery is was off. 60% is the actual 50%.... And that is clearly on purpose in order to score better on reviews like Chinas most popular reviewer XiaoBai.)

You could also take digital wellbeing as a reference. It was pretty accurate. But be careful it counts from 0:00 to 0:00. (24h)

I'm aware that this question doesn't really belong in here but I don't want to create a new thread for this simple question - My latest vivo was a X70 Pro plus and it was, let's say okay. I'm still thinking about ordering a X90 Pro+ or maybe an S23 Ultra but whats still bothering me is, are there issues with using Spotfiy via bluetooth in the car? Like, is it autoplaying when it's connected via blueooth? The "iMusic" app was behaving like crazy on the X70 Pro Plus I remember.

Yes huge problem if you have another Bluetooth device coupled like a Garmin smartwatch. Then cannot use external speakers before disconnecting the watch. The vivo mistakes the watch as a speaker even though it correctly announces it isn't. Cannot connect to any home equipment like echo or Sonos while having the watch connected. If you connect several speakers no way to set a preference that I found.

I do not know what you're talking about . My X90 PP is connected to my radio via BT and my Huawei smartwatch via BT at the same time and everything works perfectly. And external speaker work

At first, Thank you for your answer. Just curious - you talk about privacy on this phone in some other thread and also use an Echo Dot at home and wear a smartwatch? I guess your negativity with this phone should be taken with a grain of salt.

Echo DOT can be used without disclosing data to Amazon just as an Bluetooth speaker - the DOT is perfect for traveling and much better than any? at least my laptop speakers - and it's cheap. If you don't hand over the wifi to an Echo - it's a simple bluetooth speaker., nothing smart about it then.

Yeah - smartwatches from Garmin gather some data to be useful - but pretty abstract from any other data on your phone/PC. Their privacy is pretty good concerning what they gather and what not. There is a huge difference to what Vivo is doing.
