Hello,

I have a Redmi 3 with an unlocked bootloader and RR 7.1.2 installed. It is a family member's phone that got dropped in the water and was given to me to repair. It always boots up into fastboot and not into the OS. I didn't know what was up and got the bootloader unlocked and a custom ROM installed but nothing has fixed the issue. I discovered that the volume down button doesn't work or is always on therefore sending the phone into fastboot on startup. Holding the power button down for long enough will make the phone to eventually boot up into Android but it is a pain, and you can't turn the volume down once on. I figured it was a hardware issue after installing a custom ROM and ordered the replacement power/volume buttons that plug into the motherboard. Oddly, this changed nothing so I'm led to believe the problem lies within the motherboard itself.

Any ideas as to what can be done? Does anyone have a broken Redmi 3 with a functioning motherboard I could purchase? I would like to get this phone back to normal if possible.

Thanks.

If your volume down button is stuck, always on, it is problem, and then must boot device into the fastboot. Thats mechanical issue.
If you in OS, you can try some button widget from Play in notification or something like that. I using it on two old phone with broken volume buttons and working good. But I don´t think so about ROM issue, problem with volume down button. That is not ROM thing. Which ROM you using? And can you try install different ROM? But in 9 from 10 cases volume button issue is mechanical thing...

Yeah, I know it's a hardware problem. I guess that means the motherboard is in fact toast?

I did replace the power/volume buttons switch.
