Interesting development.
I picked up my AT&T - US Pixel 7 Pro about a week ago and just came across the VPN feature for the first time this evening and it reads as follows on my p7p when looking through the stock ROM settings and Help section under the very last expandable section titled "VPN by Google One on Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro": when expended it reads as follows (I'll attach a screen shot as well):

"Users of the Pixel 7 & Pixel 7 Pro can use VPN by Google One app or without a Google One subscription. Other google One membership benefits are sold separately.
Current Google One Premium members (2 TB or higher) can already use VPN by Google One on multiple devices. This VPN offer doesn't impact the cost or benefits of Google One Premium plans.

To use VPN by Google One on older Pixel devices, you need Google One Premium plan The VPN by Google One is available with eligible Google Accounts if the devicecontinues to receive security updates.

Workspace and certain superised accounts, like a childs account, arent' elegible. In India and Singapore, Pixel 7 and P7Pdevices aren't eligible forVPN by Google One.

Important: Your Pixel 7 or P7P must meet certain criteria for the VPN by Google One to work. VPN by Google One may not work if:

+ Device is rooted
+ Device isn't updated to latest security update
+ bootloader is unlocked
+you run a beta or other unofficial version of Android

So its got to be maybe security updates or lack of them thats tripping a fuse, right? Maybe if we can find out what servers the custom ROMs are reaching out to and block access like a windows host file maybe?

Something like that, its been a long time since ive programmed

I had this same error happen, clearing data on the app fixed it. Note: if you're rooted make sure that you hide all the Google One processes from root detection (e.g. MagiskHide)

I'm running Magisk 25.2 delta-6, zygisk enabled, displax safetynet-fix-v2.4.0-MOD_1.2, and the built in magiskhide for Google One (also Google, Google Play Services, Google Play Store, Google Play Protect)
do you have every sub-item in google one, google play services, google play store, and google play protect blocked? You have the base google app hidden in magisk hide too? I just hid everything under these and it still didn't work. I deleted data and cache for One after hiding too. There have been a lot of good points made that this VPN isn't that great and is actually like letting the fox in the hen house too. Shouldn't we just use proton VPN if we must use a free VPN anyway?

The reason for using Google One VPN is the IP addresses are supposed to be very pure for online streaming purpose. Say for example one lives in China and wants to pay their fair share to Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Disney+ w/ subscription instead of piracy, the Google One VPN would have come into great rescue, except right now China is not supported, not to mention those transparent proxies one set on the wireless router using OpenWRT, etc appear to be rejected by Google One VPN. If everybody is still having trouble with non-rooted stable build in the long list of supported countries, then I guess I wouldn't feel too bad then. Wish Google had a one way compensate for this unfortunate event. Again, we are not asking Google One VPN to help us avoid govt censorship per se. Google is otherwise already banned in China.

This is the solution. You don't have to enable every item under Play Protect, but you need to toggle both items under Google One. I did that, cleared app data, then it began working for me. I'll update if it breaks.

Proton vpn doesn't work in China. We must treasure our freedom and hold Google accountable

Nothing has worked for me here in the Dominican Republic. I HAD vpn working for a couple of weeks when I got the device (it was already rooted even), but it stopped working and has never worked after that.

Chatting with Google support they only state that vpn is a feature still rolling out and to please wait.

I think I solved the issue.
The notifications for One app needs to be enabled. The strange thing is that if you hide the wrong notification, re-enabling it doesn't work, you need to clear the app data.
You can try hiding some of the notification, to understand which one messes up things, but remember that you could need to clear app data.

I am not entirely following, but maybe I couldn't connect due to my phone is rooted and they are detecting it. Or because the forward IP I am using isn't pure enough for them to accept it. I can try again to rule out the root aspect when I am in a real acceptable country instead of relying on a forward VPN to be the launch pad

Out of nowhere, VPN started working again (rooted, premium Google One user). Previously I had to clear data on the Google One app any time I wanted to get it working - and that was only effective temporarily.

Now it's working again every time I try it. Something must have changed server side.

Same here. I cleared data for Google 1 and VPN is working again. I talked to Google 1 support team a couple weeks back and they told me that a unlocked bootloader and rooted Pixel 7 Pro wouldn't be supported for VPN. Anyway, glad to see it working again.

It's working for me now, too. I didn't clear data, I tried a few days earlier and still wasnt working until I tried today. Didn't change a thing. This was definitely something in Google's end

P7P, Android 14 Beta 2. Not able to connect to GO VPN even after clearing Google One data.

I saw on reddit thread that few other people with same configuration are able to use this VPN.

Not working for me again, though I'm on latest EvoX rooted. Safetynet passes, YASNAC all clear and hidden Google One app with Magisk, still doesn't connect

Hello, so I was using the free VPN from Google 1 that comes with the pixel 7 pro just fine until a few days ago I noticed it disconnected by itself. I tried to enable it again but now I'm getting this error attached below. I have no idea how this happened and I haven't changed a thing on my phone. Is anyone able to use it still?
