Rooted and took ota but error 402

Thought I would except the 4.4.2 OTA just now but when it goes to install, it fails and gives a error 402. Maybe because I'm rooted stock. Not sure but it will reboot back to rooted Jelly Bean with no changes made. It is probably Verizon being weird about us being rooted. Not sure.

I'll second that. I did the "manual install of the OTA" to 24A on my vs980 (Verizon), and it has been 100% rock solid. NO fc's (and I had none onf 12b either for that matter), smooth / fast, quick to charge -- and battery last forever (5 to 6 hours OST, avg 24 hours total life with that much screen use. Also noticed lately that if I'm at home on WiFi and play Reversi, I can play for 3 hours and watch the battery only dip perhaps 10% to 12% - incredible).

In 22 years of using cell phones, and flashing mods and custom ROMs for several years, i can confidently say that stock 24A is the best, smoothest, fastest and most stable ROM I have every used. Adding Xposed (G2 Xposed and G2 Tweaksbox) has not had any negative impact on performance or stability, but let me add in some of the customizations that I might normally need to get from a custom ROM.

This OTA is fantastic for VzW users - highly recommended. So good, in fact, that I hesitate trying custom ROMs until I see some "to die for" features in a ROM that is as stable as 24A stock.

@jonstrong When you refer to the "manual install of the OTA", are you referring to the KK upgrade that I can get using the Upgrade Assistant (~2GB)? I'm trying to decide whether to upgrade using the VZW OTA method (~700MB) or not and which method would be more advantageous. I don't intend to root or flash any roms to it.

TIA.

If you're 100% sure you won't be rooting (or flashing), then the official VzW OTA method should be fine, and you can also rest assured that it and your phone remain 100% covered by VzW should you run into any issues.

I chose to do the "manual install" of the OTA as documented and described by @xdabbeb in the thread linked in the OP of this thread:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2699123

As far as anyone has determined, you wind up with the exact same version of KitKat either way. I chose xdabbeb's method, because I had already rooted my G2 (vs980), and although I'm not planning to use custom ROMs at the moment, I wanted to retain root. Finally - the version that @xdabbeb describes was ready several days before VzW started allowing customers to do an official update to KitKat, and I was impatient!

As many times as I've unlocked, rooted and flashed prior phones, I actually like the stock G2 for the most part. It's fast, smooth and incredibly functional. Rooting it allowed me to install the Xposed Framework, and my favorite module for Xposed, "G2 TweaksBox". Without having to worry about a custom ROM, I get all the benefit of the stock ROM, and then get to tweak navbar, status bar, lock screen and other parts of the system -- and if I change my mind, I can deactivate the module or the entire Xposed Framework, and be 100% stock again after a single reboot. Brilliant!

Back to your question: if you are sure you want a pure stock experience, then the official VzW OTA is the simplest way to go, and you'll get the same KitKat either way.

I couldn't update with the OTA, same problem, but the Verizon Upgrade Assistant on the phone, ran it on my windows 8.1 in compatiblity mode since just running it didn't work, put phone into Internet/ethernet mode, and everything worked; took about 20 miinutes.

Went ahead and installed the ota - will report if I have any problems.

Can you check under settings software update, status and post a screen shot? Does it look like this?

My OTA on stock LGG2 is coming as I speak. Pretty sure it is Kitkat finally because of the size

So does anyone have any idea when we'll get the knock code update? Lg said in April and its almost June and Verizon hasn't released it. Are they even going to? Or will we have to resort to our own methods of getting it? And i don't know much about kernels but why can't we just use the international versions source since it got knock code already and put it into three Verizon version? I know it's not that easy or itd already be done but just wondering

Currently updating....at 36%. Will let everyone know how it goes.

EDIT: Step 2/2...at 40%. Slow but still going.

EDIT2: OK. It worked. I think I might want to go through the whole process again to determine exactly what steps were necessary, however, b/c I kind of threw everything at it at once on my last try. It may have to wait for morning, though, as it's 2:30am here and I'm a little faced.

Hey guys. I'm up, but desperately need coffee and something greasy to eat first.

@JackpotClavin I'll get dumps of system, boot, tz, rpm, and modem. If you want a few specific dirs from system send me a pm.

@koftheworld yep, that was where i was stuck before I went out. I'll definitely write up a guide after I revert and go through the process again. Do you guys want it in here or a new thread?

I have the partition images so I'm going to revert to 12b again and verify exactly which steps I took were necessary. Sorry to be particular about that, but I like to be precise and I was a little drinky when I did it last night.

I'll start uploading the images as well
