Hi,
Have the G4 XT1625. Considering trying some of the Nougat ROMs but they all seem to say that the N Soak Test needs to be applied first...Why? With my previous phones, whenever a new OS was ported, I was able to flash it without the need to upgrade other firmware first. Why aren't the necessary N files incorporated into the custom N ROMs already? What has changed?
Thanks for helping me understand.

Fingerprint doesn't work as properly it needed to work on Nougat ROM if you flash over MM...
On every thread you will see Single Fingerprint Issues... I haven't seen anything else....

That's a problem on other devices too. Also from LP to MM there was extra firmware needed unless the dev cooked it into roms, from MM to N no firmware is needed and never ota updates or test roms; im talking about Zuk Z1.
It really depends, not every device needs this and also it depends from the manufacturer of the device, how they handle firmware.

A custom recovery cannot update firmware files on your phone. There are updates to the firmware in several partitions not accessible to TWRP. Hence, only the stock recovery or fastboot can flash to these partitions. The stock firmware is hence flashable only that way.

Flashing the Nougat soak test for the G4 models is not necessary. Only required for the G4 plus models. I have the XT1625 and have used several Nougat custom ROM's without any issues at all. I am currently on AICP - 12.1 - N 7.1.0_rXx (0126 build) and have been since 12/28/2016. IMO it is the best of them all.

Thanks man! But I have the xt1626 version, is a g4 non plus, my question is if will be right.

;)
Official Nougat has not been released for XT1625 so I can only assume it isn't available for the XT1626.

I'm on g4 not plus xt1625 us retail no soak test. All nougat ROMs work great for me. From my experience nougat update and soak test is not needed. Some nougat ROMs are still using mm base bands as they seem to work better
