General [WARNING] Calling stops working outside of China for the Chinese version

Unlocking as applied to regional calling restrictions means visiting a OnePlus service center, connecting the already locked phone to their device via USB and doing something for 2 minutes. No one knows exactly what they are doing but I'm quite sure it can be replicated. AFAIK this also requires developer mode enabled (but of course they can do it themselves).

They cannot "unlock" the phone if the calling restrictions haven't yet kicked in. Which means Chinese sellers cannot do that either (you cannot replicate the issue when you're in China unless you have a foreign SIM card inserted and you keep the phone on for roughly two weeks).

Just don't buy the Chinese version unless you absolutely need 512GB storage. It's not worth it.

Fair enough. My sister switched it on in China and used a Chinese Sim at the time. She made a call as well for 5 minutes.

I used my local sim (Malaysian) when she brought it back to me on the 3rd. I will know by 17th/18th if it locks up.

And what in case when shop before activate just flash OxygenOS? In this case, the phone will have its first login in the network in the destination country and on the global rom. Then, since there was no login to ColorOS, the phone should not be detected as Chinese and work normally, without blocking? Of course, in theory...

I was told by my 3rd party service guy this may not work too. Most units must be activated in China first regardless of OS. However, there is a chance some units from China won't have a region lock as it's randomised, according to his sources. Reason being, he brought in some units from China and about 20-30 percent of those units were region locked.

Hi EVERYONE, I called OnePlus support UK and asked them about this. They said that if the device is first activated in China, it can be taken all over the world and it will work fine. But if you buy the Chinese version and activate in in a different country, eg UK , the phone will be locked. ALSO!!!! Even if that happens they are willing to unlock the phone for free at any service centre!
This has been confirmed to me by OnePlus on a phone call!!

So solution is simple, either ask Sellers to activate the device before sending, or if you already bought, go to a service centre and they'll fix it for free

I got a similar response on their webchat. However, the link I was sent to their UK send-to-repair/service firm has no Oneplus 11 model in their forms, and emailing them I got this reply:

my phone OP11 512Go blocked for calls and update because there was no sim card put in it when leaving china went to repair service in poland according to the requests of the one plus service, I will say more if it comes back with oxygen OS or if it stayed in Color OS, anyway the recorded calls function will no longer be active and I should be able to call in Europe and do the updates .... otherwise i will go crazy and give it back to a chinese friend for unblocking in the country. it's great nonsense it no longer makes you want to turn to this brand

I am trying hard to understand but you need to use some punctuation in your statements. Are you saying your phone is still locked or unlocked?

Good news, 2 weeks have passed and no region lock message since the 3rd of March. You definitely need a Chinese sim used in the phone and called with it for a few minutes (I asked to do 5 minutes).

Phone also flashed to OxygenOS after a few days receiving it and doing the method mentioned above.

Currently the phone is using a Malaysian sim. All good so far.

Calling works again if you factory reset on my OnePlus 11. It's China version on OxygenOs 2447

Sorry I don't know as I sent my phone to a 3rd party service centre that specialises in ROM flashing and repairs.

Yes there is, you would require an official receipt from the China store you purchased from, bring your phone to a nearby oppo service center and show them the region block and that official receipt. They will unlock it for you and add your phone IMEI to the global OnePlus server list. After I did that, my phone can now register in Red Cable Club, instead of getting the message of "imei not found" error when trying to register.

I bought my OnePlus 11 512GB from shopee malaysia, and the seller did the flashing for me, apparently the phone was stucked on version CPH2447.11.A06 and cannot find any update to it to A08 like yours.

The auto brightness was working perfectly for you? even in the lockscreen? Mine was going crazy on the lockscreen brightness, sometimes like thunder flashing, etc
