Fair enough. My sister switched it on in China and used a Chinese Sim at the time. She made a call as well for 5 minutes.Unlocking as applied to regional calling restrictions means visiting a OnePlus service center, connecting the already locked phone to their device via USB and doing something for 2 minutes. No one knows exactly what they are doing but I'm quite sure it can be replicated. AFAIK this also requires developer mode enabled (but of course they can do it themselves).
They cannot "unlock" the phone if the calling restrictions haven't yet kicked in. Which means Chinese sellers cannot do that either (you cannot replicate the issue when you're in China unless you have a foreign SIM card inserted and you keep the phone on for roughly two weeks).
Just don't buy the Chinese version unless you absolutely need 512GB storage. It's not worth it.
I used my local sim (Malaysian) when she brought it back to me on the 3rd. I will know by 17th/18th if it locks up.
