Yes. Did you search the forum already?
http://cleanimport.xda/index.php?threads/1182871/

Also, not sure such a huge quote was really necessary just to ask this question.

On an unrelated note, and I don't mean to be offensive, but... Are you sure you're American? Because I'm not, I'm not even a native speaker, and yet I feel my english is so much more inteligeable than yours... :dunno:

That was offensive. You should watch your behavior in the forum and be kind to your fellow xda members. Also, is it really necessary to pollute every thread with your comments? Are you trying to set a record for most posts in a week?

I'm sorry. I meant no harm and I really wasn't meaning to be offensive, but I agree what I said can very well be seen as such and it was uncalled for.
My apologize to Demo3827 and to you.

However, I didn't realize my posts are seen as nothing but pollution. I'm new here (not technically but I was effectively idle for a long time), I came here after I got my Atrix, I liked the place so I decided to stick around. And while I'm here I thought I might as well contribute as well. Yes, I've been posting a lot because like I said I'm new and I'm trying to be helpful. I had no idea my posts are in fact useless. Since I clearly have nothing to contribute, I guess I won't be posting anymore.

Hey guys, there are lots of threads out there which have motorola atrix bootloader unlock guides, but it is starting to get very confusing bc some instructions don't apply to some phones: I am a noob so can someone plz explain to me how to unlock my atrix bootloader and what are the prerequistes.... my atrix is on firmware version 4.5.141, system version is 4.5.141.MB860.ATT.enUS and it is on android 2.3.6
Thanks in advance, i would greatly appricate it if you could also post file download links.

So how could I update from Froyo 2.1 to 2.3.6 withou bricking the device? I didn't found the 2.3.6 sfb
You could do OTA, but I'm not sure if it would bump you up to 2.3.4 first or if it would go directly to 2.3.6. If you don't want to do an OTA, you have other options, specifically fruitcakes. Rooting the device is usually a good start. Below is a link that gave me the instructions

http://briefmobile.com/motorola-atrix-4g-root

From there, you'll need to unlock your bootloader. Below is the link that gives info on that

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136261

Follow the instructions and you'll be unlocked. Since you're on Froyo, you shouldn't run into any problems with this. After unlocking, you'll need to install a custom recovery.img. The 2 main recoveries being used are CWM and TWRP. Look into both and pick the one you want, and flash it via fastboot.

Once this is done, search through the Android Development section for choices of ROMs.

I will do this, correct me if I am wrong:

Root the phone
Install CMW
Make nandroid
Flash 2.3.6 fruitcake

If I don't like, then I have the nandroid to restore to 2.1

Also, 2.3.6 (Webtop) vs 2.3.6, which one is better? 2.3.6 with no webtop will give me more RAM?

Close, but you missed a step

Root the phone
Unlock bootloader
Install CMW
Make nandroid
Flash 2.3.6 fruitcake

Yes, if you don't like 2.3.6, you can use the nandroid to restore to 2.1. Keep in mind that you don't just have to stay with 2.3.6 and you don't need to just go with the fruitcake. There are custom GB ROMs that cover 2.3.4 up to 2.3.7, and of course, there are custom ROMs that cover ICS and JB. I'm not going to tell you which one to use, just that you have options.

Ooooh cool, so I don't need to flash 2.3.6 fruitcake if I am going to use a JB ROM?

I can go directly 2.1 -> 4.2 -> 2.1 (In case I don't like 4.2, and obviously wiping cache/data)

That's right, you are free to upgrade to any ROM.

Myself, I've been working with both versions of 2.3.6 (141 and 145), 4.0.4, and 4.2.1. I have nandroid backups of each ROM, and update each of them from time to time, creating a new backup after major updates (major update for me means app updates and/or ROM updates).

As far as switching between ROMs through nandroid backup, I've never had to wipe anything. I just go into Backup and Restore>Restore>Backup_file_for_ROM_I_want_to_switch_to>Yes after that, I'm back up and running on the ROM from the nandroid.
