Hi. Jumped from a broken GSIII to a Note II the other day. Up and running with CM11 and I came across this post & warning.

Is this post saying don't use Odin for *just* roms? Or don't use Odin for anything once you've unlocked the bootloader? Like if I flash a radio package or make a .tar recovery update, and flash with Odin, will it break anything? The wording is not 100% clear to me.

It says "don't use Odin to flash custom ROMs".

It says "don't use Odin to flash custom ROMs".
Followed by... "Please use Odin as a factory restore tool only" which made me question the otherwise obvious title. I assumed it was a "roms only" warning, but I preferred to ask and double check.. not find out otherwise the hard way after flashing a new radio.

This is here to warn people about flashing with Odin. After unlock, the bootloader will literally accept anything, even a justin beiber MP3. you could brick easily.

Case in pt [my brainfart]: I flashed a Sammobile release of 4.3 FOR N7100 including its own BLs.. Now JTAG'd and back on VRAMC3, but I cannot get CASUAL to pass the DL mode step.. CADI drivers fail to get the i605 re-recognized. What to do?

There are so many links to another link to another link for Casual....not really sure where to post this or if I should post it in all of them. Anyway, I have been using Casual since the day it was available on XDA and have had to use it many times. For me, it seems like there is just always one little thing that is wrong for it not to work correctly. And, it just happened again and I haven't seen mention of it anywhere. Basically, I found out that when using Casual from a download from the Google Chrome Browser, Java will not work correctly or update. However, when I used Safari Browser, there was an update for Java and wouldn't you know the whole day trying to get Casual to do it's thing and here it was the browser this time..It is a life saver as long as you have dotted your "i"s and crossed your "t"s........:)

Java 7.51 was released last week. Its important to update for your security. I can't really support Mac very well without a Mac to work with. I have a 32bit one, but it has been obsoleted.

Adam, are there any plans to update casual to unlock the stock MJ9 bootloader?

I know it's not quite related to the post I'm replying to. I just don't know how much longer I can stay stock. I'm seriously considering getting another phone just so I can flash custom ROMs. Thanks

Buy another phone. I can't come up with anything. Lee is too busy and other people are holding onto exploits. No more talk about this in here. If I have something to release or its pending you'll find out on G+. I'm not saying I or others won't have something, but I personally have other priorities than wasting time on Samsung devices.

don't use ODIN to flash ROM but what about RADIO?

Ok so I knew not to attempt to flash a ROM with ODIN (why would I? so much easier in recovery anyway) BUT as I was going rom 4.1.1 to 4.4.4 I knew I needed to update the Baseband Radio (or so I'm told) with ODIN. When I did that, I killed my radio. Then I wiped and tried again this time in recovery and it worked.

So question is, no ODIN under any circumstances or allowable for radio updates?

But, How to Now?

UPDATE - I see it has been updated, just not the summary

I think this could solve all the issues people are asking about in this thread and the how to

I ask bc the how to still says - Section 1: How to Root/Unlock/ Return to Stock 4.X Jelly Bean coming from any rom with Odin

REQUEST - I'm writing to see if the sticky for the "HOW TO" for flashing can be updated in regards to not using odin, or to have that updated on the first thread of the "odin warning" thread. I understand you need it to revert, but I also understand the need to safely flash. Now that things have changed can the first thread of the sticky please be updated with the new general basics? I have only unlocked my phone 2 years ago. I did not want to loose the features for the note 2 at the time (which I never use).

What I remember from years ago:
You need the ROMs (AOSP and touchwiz)
Installer/s for ROMS (which is best now)
Now - Odin for touchwiz only, if you need to send it in
update radio band, how?
anything else I should have for safety or the future to prevent issues when they arise. Thanks for helping a noob.

My situation if you are wondering - I HATE touchwiz
I did unlock my VZN note 2 for apps and have killed the OTA updates while on 4.1.2. I'm now SO frustrated with SLOW-as-molasses touchwiz after having to pull the battery due to touchwiz failures I would like to flash a stable ROM. From what I have read over the past few days is that Gummy Rom is a great overall option. My Motorolla Atrix 3G 3 years ago was faster and less glitchy than this dam phone - as is.

I know that these threads are pretty much dead but its 2018 is there any new development on unlocking the ND7 bootloader? Because it breaks my heart when I see this phone capable of running Android nougat and just stuck on KitKat
