Watch notifications stopped, with BT connection OK

I have read the threads here about BT connection problems, but this is something different:
My ZW2 suddenly stopped receiving notifications (email, weather, etc) AND sending data (UP steps, movement data) to my phone (Huawei mate 7, 5.1.1, stock, unrooted), while BT connection is just fine (on AndroidWear, watch), I can initiate, control phone calls from my watch.
Restarting watch/ phone, force stop AndroidWear/ Up, cleaning cache does not solve the issue. ZenWatch is uninstalled (no effect).

Any other ideas where the culprit is, and how to solve it? Pretty annoying a smartwatch just showing the time..
