Does anyone know of anywhere with watchface resources. Im thinking mostly the hands in png format? Or a tutorial on how to make them on gimp? Ive had a go but im not very competent to say the least!

You should go to the WatchMaker community on Google+. All sorts of goodies there. In addition, there are tons of free faces on facerepo.com where you certainly can scrounge for parts.
