Verizon delayed it for so long it almost feels obsolete already with new phones like Nexus 4 out and new ones probably coming out around Christmas time. On top of that, they crapped on the home button.
There's absolutely nothing out, nor is there anything that is expected to be released by the end of the year, that makes the Note 2 seem even remotely obsolete. Sure there are a few devices that have a leg up on the Note 2 in certain specs, but the Note 2 also has a leg up on them in other specs. The Note 2 is at the top of the Android hill right now alongside a few other devices, and it will remain there until early next year (and quite possibly through early summer).

Do we even have rumored specs for the s4 yet? This whole living on the the bleeding edge of tech kinda sucks.. I am just going to get my N2 and live in peaceful ignorant bliss for the next year.. I think it will be that good of a device that, I wont feel the need for anything else for at least another year..

If you are going pick a phone that makes the Note 2 feel almost obsolete, I wouldn't go with the Nexus 4 (Android iPhone 5 without LTE?).

I can't wait to retire my Thunderbolt. Done with all the problems with this phone. Oh, and the crazy delayed updates.

I am currently on a TBolt too.. I had a GNex totally dialed and I loved that phone.. until the screen met the pavement.. I had to return to my Thunderbolt for the last 3 months, and let me say it was a awesome phone back in its day, but After spending alot of time on my GNex, Going to the bolt (Even with a smooth ICS ROM) was a huge step back, Not to mention that the battery life sucks...

It's not coming out q1 of next year expect for maybe being announced and then it won't even come out till months later.
There are rumors now circulating that it may come out in January to March, somewhere in that window. Rumors seem to be pretty spot on as of lately, somebody predicted in Aug with a rumor when the Note II would come out exactly, so yeah... take it for what you may.

I have heard quad-core exynos 5450 clocked @ 2ghz, 2gb of ram, 13mp camera, <400 ppi, and 1080p resolution.

As JetBlue said, at this point, the S4 is only rumored to be announced during Q1 of next year. The odds of it being released during that time frame are slim to none. It will probably see a late spring/early summer launch like the S2 and S3, with a mid-to-late summer launch in the U.S.

Even if that does happen (and there are no rumors to back a Q1 release up at this point, only rumors about a Q1 announcement...any talk about a potential release during that time is just speculation from random forum users), that still doesn't invalidate what I said about the Note 2 being one of the top Android phones through early next year (and possibly through early summer).

I am starting to see limited returns for some of these specs..

13MP camera is only as good as the sensor and the software that are behind it- I am sure it will be impressive, but how much "better" will it be?

N2 has 2gb of RAM

How much difference is there going to be in the 4410 vs the 5450? At this point, all I want is power efficiency, These phone are starting to get to the point of powerful enough, I cant see there being much of a difference in the way the phone runs between these two processors.

1080p Screen @ over 400ppi, Yes this may be nicem but how much is it actually needed, I wasnt really that impressed with the DNA screen, and I rarely watch anything at 1080.. Sure its nice, but of limited return..

Not trying to say that the S4 wont be a killer device, I just think that the Note II will stay on the top and competitive for a while.. I am starting to see diminishing returns in the upgrades in phones.. They arnt making huge leaps as perceived from my perspective..

Same could be said about the N2 release, and that was spot on. Usually when you go back and review older boards, there is always a few people who claim to have insider info that get the release pretty spot on. Not saying you aren't right, but it is just as equally as possible given the unknowns that they announce it and have it out within a month. Maybe not in the USA, though, but in other parts of the world.

It is unknown if it will be better or not. I don't know how many users just wanted the N2 because of the superior specs to the S3. If they found the N2 a good substitute, maybe it would be better ofr them to wait for the S4. I'm not going to wait a few months, but if it is coming from Samsung I expect nothing but amazing.

There was nothing surprising about the Note 2 release. It followed suit with the timing of the release of the original Note. It was also backed up by more tangible evidence further out from launch. A Q1 launch for the S4 would be surprising based on previous release schedules and based on the lack of tangible evidence or substantial rumors at this point.

Could it happen? Sure. Anything can happen. Is a Q1 release for the S4 likely? More than likely not.

I guess we will see. My guess is they want to keep cashing in on their flagship phone, so yeah. No different to me from ip4 and ip4s, so take it as what you like.

I never said the n2 arrival was unexpected, but having rumors state that this exact day when the n2 would be released in the USA is. So they may be rumors, but some people obviously have more insider info than others. I would not be shocked at all if we saw s4 in early q1 that is all I'm saying.

I seriously cannot wait until I get the phone in my hands! :) I'm using an iPhone 4S and it's time I make the trek back to the other side. I opened up a new line of service on my account just so I can get the phone at $300. Going to convert my current line to a dumb phone and pay the extra $20~ a month going from a single line to a family share line (I have a Wells Fargo discount). I can't just pay my $230 early termination fee for my current line, as I'll lose my WF discount :( I did the math and I'll be paying just about $30 or so in total more with the extra cost a month. Totally worth it IMO for the Note 2.

Samsung already announced that the rumor of the S4 coming out in Q1 was wrong.

Les than one week til release and I can't wait! Though I'll have to say it was no where near as bad as the Thunderbolt. "Released in the end of February" (with ads about it and everything) February comes and goes with no word on what's going on then finally in the end of March it comes out.

Ah I cant wait for this phone. I got my cases n my 2 spare batteries for this thing. I'm ready. $700 sure is a tough pill to swallow. I think I seen the Sprint Note 2 for $650 n I was hoping that would be the price but eh oh well. I have a family plan with 4 lines already. Can I open a new line to get the Note 2 for $300 n then switch to a dumb phone while still keeping my unlimited data? I tried it online n it wouldn't let me :/

Take it for what you may, that was almost over 2 months ago that they announced that. Plenty of sites going off about CES 2012 in January it will be announced and expect a release in Feb. Plus, some Korean sites have reported that Samsung is in the process of producing a different type screen that goes away from their typical AMOLED display, so I guess we will see.

yes you can, you have to buy the phone on the new line, once you received the phone wait 24 hours then switch that line to a dummy phone and and transfer the note 2 to your unlimited data line.
works every time and will cost you an extra $17 a month on your bill for that dummy line. I did the math and I sold my S3 today for ($400), paid ($318) for N2 + 2 year plan at $17 a month ($408). So my total for the next two years is $726, since I sold my phone for $400 I'm only coming out my pocket for the phone and extra line, $326.

Before anyone says anything, yes I could have just sold my phone, purchase an N2 for $699, but they would have charged me tax and $30 upgrade fee totaling $760+. Another bonus I have a second phone and phone number.

extra line should only cost around 11-12 bucks after taxes.. don't know how you got 17.
