My screen did the same damn thing. The edge started flickering and then showing lines and then things went green.

I got mine from Amazon, and I *****ed enough that they sent me an advance replacement for it. It seems like this is an ongoing issue with the p7p series.

Maybe another class action should be underway...
I definitely didn't expect this thread to grow as much as it has. Hopefully your new phone ends up being fine. It's crazy that this is happening so early in the life of these devices.

I'm going to have to take mine in. I'm having freezing problems a lot in Firefox and the screen cuts out in games and Firefox. Sometimes it goes all black, sometimes all yellow. I've been hitting it on my hand to "wake" it up, but then system processes start to crash.

I'm going to pull my data off tonight when I get home from work and take it over tomorrow to get fixed. Hopefully I can get them to replace both the screen and the motherboard, making it practically a new phonel.

I gotta say, I like the openness of the phone and I like it as a whole, but these hardware problems are a real pain. I've never had hardware problems like this. I would definitely think twice before buying another Pixel down the road.

I had this exact issue with mine too: occasional green flicker when the screen was off (AoD), random streaks, later on also the screen turning completely off, all exacerbated by heat. In my experience I had to go to an EE store (UK) which is listed as an authorised repair centre. They apparently use a company called SBE for the actual repair and they tried to claim fractures on the digitiser (couldn't get anybody to show me any proof of this) and quoted me almost £200 to repair it. Instead I took it back and had to just RMA the whole device. This was all despite the phone being in great condition otherwise with no drops or dents or anything. Wasted several days on that whole thing, all told. One day wasted handing it in at the EE store and getting absolutely nowhere and overall I reckon if I'd been able to arrange an RMA on the same day I would have saved an entire week.

The EE people in-store seemed nice enough but the people they forward it to seem really dodgy based on that. Despite confirmation it was under warranty and going to a Google Authorised Repair centre, SBE Ltd tried to charge me for it. I don't see what's to be gained from that, as if it's confirmed to be a warranty repair I imagine they would communicate with Google if they needed to be reimbursed, so I feel like the only reason to charge me would be to try and double dip.

(I got a text a few days afterwards asking me to rate my experience. I would have rated it a hard zero but my text wouldn't go through. I think because I'm not on EE's network it couldn't communicate to the short code properly.)

Well it's pulsing the brightness every so often (auto is off). Come on man, I just need it to last 9 more days...

There is definitely some kind of short that's affecting the panel and slowly killing it. That's the only thing that would explain it.
Why 9 more days?

Just got mine back. I'm thinking now's a good time to dump it, but I have to fix the camera glass first. Does the factory warranty transfer with the sale?

One good think about the UBIF shop I've used - they don't care about rooting. Just warned be that it could be a problem if I send it back unless I can wipe it somehow at that point. Still warrantied it despite the camera glass being cracked. Said Google would consider that physical damage if I sent it in.

After using my OP9 for the last week, I may just use that for a while longer until something else I want comes out.

Last Pixel I'll ever buy.

I can't pick up my S23 Ultra until Friday and I don't have another device that has eSIM so I would be without access to my 2FA codes for that period of time.

Google doesn't care about rooting either. It doesn't void the warranty at all. One great reason to have a Pixel.

I would use my OP9 if it had eSIM + pSIM or dual pSIM but OnePlus decided to screw US customers that year.

I don't know that this will be my last Pixel ever but it will be my last if Google continues to use Samsung modems unless Samsung magically catches up to Qualcomm at some point.

I'm pretty sure the warranty on the Pixel is not transferrable.

That support fight will be a real joy lol. If you can't get Googs to do the right thing, just keep opening tickets. I'm sure you're aware, but it takes playing the competence lottery to get the right gatekeeper to support their hardware these days. I went through hell with this not that long ago. They're going to try and get you to use some random authorized repair center or send it to them. In both cases, in my area, that would've left me without a phone for over a week. Finally got the right person to replace my defective unit. Best of luck and sorry you have to go through the process. Not that there's many out there, but getting one of the rare lemon devices (user error aside) is always a bit frustrating, considering how expensive these things have gotten.

I do find it interesting that this is the first defective phone I've had since the UTStarcom PPC-6700 I got in 2006 that had a defective SD card reader. I've had some HTCs with varying degrees of poor quality LCDs (yellow tints - I remember going to the Sprint store and having them open up like 4 Evo 4Gs before we found a white screen) but those were a case of different suppliers, not actual issues.

Pixels definitely have higher than normal reports of issues relative to other phones. When I went to uBreakiFix the girl who helped me actually said they have more problems with Pixels than other devices.
Who knows what manufacturer Google is using. All we know is it is made in China.

In my personal opinion I think Google should use Samsung to make their next phone. Heck it has a Samsung screen, modem, and Google designed Samsung processor. They might as well go all the way.

I think it also has something to do with the amount of phones produced. The larger the production run and money given to the manufacturer the more the manufacturer probably does a better job. Just a guess?

Heck, even Apple has lemons. I have seen a lot of bad screens on certain devices and other issues. It just happens and it seems more and more like quality control is left to the customer rather than the factory.

Just keep at it. You deserve a working phone. Then you can decide what to do with it.

I remember buying a Pixel 4xl pre order. The first one shipped to me was stolen out of the box even though the outer box had not been tampered with. The second device had a screen issue and finally the third was good. It was a real headache with customer service but in the end I got a decent Pixel. In my experience if you get a defective unit no amount of repairs will help. Replacement is the only thing that will work.

So far my P7P has been great. But I did send back an "A" series Pixel a few years ago because it was junk. I have had far, far more positive experiences with every phone I have ever owned with the best ones being from OnePlus and Motorola (from years past on the Moto's). If Google doesn't get their hardware in order I may be compelled to go back to OnePlus, or heaven-help-me Samsung. I hate Samsung's Bixby and other redundant shovelware apps, but they do make good hardware. ADB AppControl to the rescue for ALL Android phones! So I'll wait and see what comes with Pixel 8 before making any decisions.

Started noticing the other night that when I was on certain sites that I would get streaks down the screen. They moved with the text on the screen and it was worse with white backgrounds.

Now when my screen goes on or off, the edges flash green and in certain dark screens I can see green streaking down the panel. As a matter of fact when I use the fingerprint reader, the animation that spreads across the screen is now green tinted as well. It's definitely getting worse as time goes on even though earlier today I couldn't see any defects at all!

I have to say this is my first time having a problem with an OLED panel. Since I converted my Tello plan to eSIM, it's going to be a problem if I have to be without my phone for awhile. I guess I better order a Tello SIM card before I start the fight with support to get a replacement. It's been in a Spigen Tough Armor the whole time and the panel isn't cracked nor has it sustained any drops that should have damaged it but I've heard enough horror stories about Google support to know that my buying the phone at Best Buy may end with them refusing to repair it without a huge fight.

    Very disappointing.

EDIT: Well at least Tello made the ordering process easy. $2 for the SIM, $5 for 2-3 day USPS shipping. Worst case scenario having it on pSIM I can just stick it in my OnePlus 9 for a bit.

EDIT2: That was way easier to get fixed that I was expecting. I had no issues with the Pixel repair support rep I chatted with and I called two uBreakiFix locations. The one closest to my house didn't have the screen in stock but could order it. The one less than 5 minutes further away had the screen and got it changed in about an hour. Very pleased!

We got to the store as soon as it opened and it took them about an hour to do the repair. It seems to be working so far. Fingers crossed.
