Unless you pay AT&T the monthly fee you can't do it without root.

You can tether without root if you use "ClockworkMod Tether (no root)" by Koush. You can't download it from the Market directly on your Note since it has been removed from the AT&T listings, but a quick search using el Google and you will find what you are looking for.

Clockworkmod or easy tether...but once att catches you they will change your plan to a mobile hotspots plan

try foxfi software...tried it on my friend's note, since I am still planning to get one and was able to tether my atrix to his note at LTE speeds

This works perfect! Im only using tether for my ipod touch and its not often. I was on the 5gb tether plan and after they changed the throttle limit I called up att and was lucky enough to get my unlimited data back.

Hey,

I've been using "Easy Tether" the last few days on my Note. Anyone know how safe it is or what can I do to avoid AT&T finding out? I did it on my Infuse 4g and never went over 5gb but I'm afraid that with my 30mbs... I might be doing a whole lot more
