What are our chances of a flat screen model, any at all

I'd like to know if it really is a tamer edge than the S7 edge or not.

Really don't know why they can't stick with a flat screen but round the glass a little. Like the iPhone does it is fine.
I watched a ton of videos yesterday and it looks really toned down, big difference from the S7.

Only way to be sure is hold one in my hand, so i went ahead and pre-ordered it lol.

Sent from my Note 5 or S6

The only thing that should matter is usability. The original Note Edge with one curved side was an ergonomic disaster and impossible to hold without touching the screen. It also made using cases rough. The Note7's edges seem to better designed so that when you're holding it you won't accidentally hit things on the screen or edge panel. Let's face it, design and unique features are a huge part of what Samsung's using to command uber premium pricing. It worked with the S7/S7 Edge based on sales increases so the Note7 is following in their footsteps.

Personally I could go either way (assuming usability isn't affected). I'd have bought it with or without the edge display. Some of the things you can do with the edge panel are cool so it's not all fluff.

Went to Best Buy and checked out the Note 7.

It's fast
Screen is sharp and bright

Cons:

Size
Screen edges

It's too small in hand for me. Totally felt like an Android iPhone. Pics to give a sense of size. Hopefully Note 8 will fix this. Keeping my Note 4 another year.

Should add gripping the phone, my fingers touch both sides of the screen. It's too narrow for my hand.

Its much much tamer than the s7 edge. U can take my words to the bank. Spent an hour with it in a local samsung event. Honestly much better implementation of the edge design.

Agreed. That looks stupid in your hand. Way too narrow and tall.
Thanks for sharing.

How is that screen good for use with the pen Samsung??

I really hope they go back to just flat with rounded glass.

This is the way Samsung constructs their flagships from now and this design concept will most likely trickle unto the budget phones in the next few years. Unfortunately people who doesn't like the edge design are in the minority. Therefore, unless they've got abysmal sales figures at least for the Note, I seriously doubt they will bring back the flat phones.

I think the s7 edge sold well for several reasons.
Least of which was the curved glass.

Things change pretty quick. Already the edge has evolved. They could make it even less on the s8.
Heart rate sensor can go very soon too. I'm sure samsung has data showing how almost no one uses it. At this point that trial is about over.

Well, seeing that the edge outsold the regular S7 with the same specs, I guess its safe to say its because of the edge design dont you think?

More like screen size not design. They may well have sold more with a flat 5.5 screen who knows?

But people do like gimmicks or whats "cool"...whatever the latest marketkng attempt is. and most sheep out there would consider the edge screen both and fall for it lol

I have not found it to be useful or practical myself.

Thats why I appreciate the tamer edge on the note 7. The edge bends at a steeper angle, making the grip feel more like a normal phone, especially with the symmetrical design. I like what Samsung has put into the design of this Note.

It feels to me that Samsung's innovation makes Apple look like its not even trying.

For me, narrow(er) = good. Running through airports trying to use the Note5 one-handed was a chore. Trying to use it one-handed was also the time I felt most likely to drop it. I think it's more an optical illusion though. It's not that much narrower than the Note5.

Even the Note5 was narrower than the iP6+

Honestly, I wish they would make a flat faced version and call it the "Plus" line or something. I really wanna like this phone like the others (Owned a Note 3, 4 and 5) but I dunno, there are a few things putting me off haha

It wouldn't be a "plus" it would be a minus. Edge screen devices have always sold at a premium to their flat screen equivalents. Note's have always been Samsung's most premium devices price and feature wise. Where would Samsung position a flat Note7? If the Note7 sells well as-is the idea of introducing a de-contented flat version that sells for less seems non-productive. Especially because a cheaper Note is - A) no longer premium, and B) price wise would be encroaching on S7 territory. If there's a flat screen version it would most likely be dedicated to an emerging market like China or India where price is king and the selling conditions are different. Maybe the 6GB/128MB version for China will have a flat screen. Test mules with flat screens have appeared online.

A traditional flat screen note with 6g of ram (not really a big deal there) and 128gb of storage?

Id be all over that in a heartbeat.

Too bad the chinese version would probably not be a good match for our mobile bands here.

XDA is riddled with horror stories of people trying to Westernize Chinese Samsung devices. Playing with the CSC and partitions and then loading s/w from another region gets a device workable but never 100%. A flat Chinese-only Note7 would be even worse because there wouldn't be a Western region's ROM to load. Trying to convert Chinese and Korean devices to Western specs are a great garage project for those looking for a challenge but other than that should be avoided.

Try a big phone with an edge screen one handed.
I think you have a new problem. Always touching the screen.

They manufacture the screens. They could simply tweak the ratio from 16:9 and keep it flat.
The curve does no good for anything.

From the looks of it I think a lot of Edge skeptics might change their mind, I think the less pronounced curve on the Note 7 might make a bigger difference than people think. Or maybe I'm just hopeful.
