Finally got around to taking a few photos of my Note 8 with an Otterbox Commuter and Whitestone Dome.

I've had Commuters on three previous devices, and this one is my favorite so far. The cut-out flaps all fit exactly like they should, and the overall feel is a little more streamlined/less bulky compared to the ones I've used before. It definitely feels solid and premium all around. I messed up my first Whitestone Dome during application, but decided to buy a second one and thankfully this time it applied perfectly. Been just over 2 months and no complaints or issues with touch sensitivity, lifting edges, etc. Ymmv, but I'm happy with the end result.

Now I haven't really seen many (any?) photos of the N8 with a Commuter, so this will be...pic heavy :) 20180223_181448.jpg20180223_181159.jpg20180223_181529.jpg20180223_181508.jpg20180223_181213.jpg20180223_181317.jpg20180223_181651.jpg20180223_181632.jpg20180223_181543.jpg

I'm loving my Amovo case in Black, from Amazon. Very premium feel, very minimal case on the phone that magnetically fits into a wallet folder type. I use it without the wallet part all the time. Very S-Pen friendly.
It's a decent daily protection in a home or office environment, but isn't going to protect against elements or drops.
I get a lot of compliments on it. 25 bucks.

I personally love the Spigen Tough Armor cases the most. Had them on my Note 4, short-lived Note 7 and now my Note 8.
Yeah. I love those case too. I have one on my Note 4 and my Note 8. I think the design of the Spigen Tough Armor case has a much better grip than most rounded cases. As the flat angular design makes it feel much better in the hand.

let me not recommend the Zizo Bolt. It will keep your phone safe, but its full of QC issues. It has decoloration issues (after 2 weeks, at least white version), the cutouts are sharp and unconfortable, the kickstand broke in 2 weeks of minimal usage, the 4 bolts/stands on the back are slippery (which is opposed to what they should be), the phone fits inside really hard, the volume and bixby buttons don't pop out and are barely clickable, while the power button is hard as hell to push, the 3,5mm jack won't fit normal headphone jacks, only thin connectors ... everything except for its robustness is awful.

While this may wander a bit off-topic, I'd really not want to start a new thread for this: I'd like to know if anyone has any experience with rugged/metal cases of the cheaper variety.

I recently bought a case from the internet. It's assembled from three separate pieces; aluminun face and backplate, and the actual case the phone sits inside, made of soft rubber (will add pictures later, though it's not relevant to my question). It looks and feels really solid, and looks protective enough, but one thing concerns me: the frame was slightly bent when I pulled it out of the envelope (yeah - no box. Ugh). Since there's no rubber or plastic between the face and the phone - it rests directly on the edges of the display - and is fastened in place with six screws, it presses its aluminum inner surface pretty hard against my expensive and very nice piece of hardware. I have a nasty feeling about what the slightly bent aluminum frame might do to the phone, given enough time.

So, my question follows: has anyone any experience on cheap metal cases? I'd like your input whether using the case is actually good for the device in the long run. Everyone else with anything to say on this matter, please chime in as well!

@oddbehreif: metal on glass is not good. I would at least check the phone from time to time. I have not used a metal case ever before on anything.
I recommend a case like this https://www.aliexpress.com/item/For...091.html?spm=a2g0s.8937460.0.0.201c2e0eX9hST1. I bought 2, I am using one right now. It has a very nice finish, it prevents the phone from dropping. You have to be somewhat careful with it, I already dropped it (it fell from my pocket as I was getting out of a car), it fell in one corner and hit another. It left very, very little signs on the metal frame of the phone, the case took the most damage, but it is still in a good shape. I bought a front facing protection film that is applied with some kind of liquid (some military grade protection). The website is in Romania https://www.smartprotection.ro/, it should send to Europe easily (if you cannot find it somewhere else locally). I think it comes close to Whitestone Dome that you guys are mentioning (it can cover the back and all the 4 sides). Putting it in such a big case just to have it protected really damages the way the phone looks. It is pretty large by itself.

This is my case. Manufacturer (VRS) states drop tested. There's a small lip, so placing the phone face down creates distance from the surface. The box includes a certificate of authenticity and holographic sticker (suppose fakes exist?).
