What are the chances of the Wildfire S getting rooted and custom roms

So I don't want to take an expensive phone with me travelling, and seeing as you can get this phone for really cheap (on a contract) I thought it be better than nothing. I am coming from a HD2 though (broken) and am slightly concerned about the performance. I have read good things, but I would feel safer if I knew that this might get rooted, be overclockable, new customs roms etc.

So if any dev's that plan to root the wildfire s and build custom rooms please let us know!

There are guys working on the Desire S and Incredible S.....
Once they get those rooted / S-Off etc etc I would imagine that the Wildfire will follow.......

Dont quote me on that though ;)

given that the wildfire was very popular and officially supported by cyanogenmod, i believe the wildfire S will follow the footsteps of its predecessor.
Just be patient and wait for a few months. This phone is still in the process of being rolled out in various parts of the world. Once enough people get hold of this phone, i'm sure there will be a few hackers/developers among them who will try to work on rooting and developing custom roms/kernels for it.

not neccessary as HTC will not lock bootloader anymore!!!
I think HTC should do what they done with the Nexus One and what Samsung done with the Nexus S and provide the choice for users to unlock the bootloader through fastboot. Motorola and Sony Ericsson are doing it with the Xoom, Arc etc.

Also: I can't wait for custom roms and such to arrive to the S.

They not lock starts from this moment... You should ask devs from other rooted devices from htc... Dont belive root comes himself...

EDIT: I take wildfire from my friend and take a look on this...

Hi there just wanting to ask a quick question is the firmware on a wildfire s the same as the wildfire A3335 which is the Australian model thanks. As i am thinking of debranding it. I have already got it unlocked so that shouldn't be a problem.

Temporal Root

Does anything give a temp root?
Hi!!

Yes, you might have temporal root privileges.

You have to use GingerBreak through ADB Shell.

Remember this doesn't allow you to install a Custom Recovery or a Custom Rom as the phone will not actually write nothing, so better don't try.

You may use any ROOT-Application like Titanium Backup till you reboot your device.

I don't know if this method works on all WildFire S.

Remember if you just want to debrand your mobile you may use a GoldCard to flash a Unbraded Stock ROM and get ride of all of that stupid branded screens and applications once and for all (as i did in mine)

Good Luck!!

In China it seems you can buy S-OFF Wildfire S, I guess they do this with XTC-clip and then sell them (still doing some more research). Thinking of buying one for my wife.

Does anybody have a link for nice background info how to make a rooted ROM?

I am experienced in baking my own rooted ROMs for Legend with the kitchen, but I have always had a rooted ROM (like BlaY0 0.8.4 or CM 7.0.3) as a starting point.
Now I guess my best bet is to take a normal RUU image for Wildfire S and to put su etc. on it, but what else would I need?

Is it feasible to, say, mix kernel+drivers etc. from the original ROM with less harware specific parts from BlaY0 or CM and in such a way construct a new ROM?

I read somewhere that from a hardware point of view Legend is closest to Wildfire S? Could somebody confirm this?

TIA!
