Funny you mention USB port failure, my HTC 10 had this, it melted/got hot while using the HTC charger/cable. Still under warranty, HTC wanted it back to investigate, after they determine it can be repaired, they sent it to Taiwan...6 months later...YES 6 MONTHS later!!! I got the phone back. Plugged it into a computer, my Pixel 2 fast charger, no problem. HTC claimed they tested everything and repaired the HTC 10 USB port. Phone was still SOFF and bootloader unlocked port looked clean. The prior HTC phone (One m8) didn't really have battery issues, but the charging port (microusb) failed on me. I believe this is going to be much less of an issue going forward with USB C connections so I wouldn't really say that's a major concern. I've had HTC phones all the way back to the EVO 4G, and generally did not have issues with battery or power related things. At this point we're going off topic though. Hopefully someone with the talent and ability finds a passion in figuring out root for the G7.![]()
When I plugged it into the HTC charger and cable, went out into my garage for about 3-4 minutes. Came back and was like, "What is that smell??" Oh shooT!!!! Grabbed the phone, I nearly burned my skin on the bottom of the phone, it was insanely hot...pulled the power out of the bottom...USB port was melted in parts...cable interface had a melted part...
Phone will still take a charge, but port is once again damaged. Unreal, 6 months it takes HTC to repair it, then they claim all is good in world, send my phone/charger/cable back, and it melts again!!!!
Still waiting for a reply from support, emailed them again. Never buying an HTC again ever..nightmare.
