Where I Am
I don't really recall anyone actively trying to gain access to the FM receiver on the S6. That could be the issue there. I don't think there was ever a thread or request for it. There's a chance I missed it too lol

I don't think there was. I just think it might be unlikely only from the standpoint that it's more than likely going to take someone with some pretty good kernel skills to dig through and figure out activation of it, and I'm sure most kernel devs will be focusing elsewhere. I could be totally wrong though. For me, it's not anything I'm too wild for, as regular radio drives me nuts with all the commercials, so I have Spotify premium.....sure it's not as useful when I'm not in service, so I keep 100 or so songs on my phone for those instances (not very often tho). :)

It's like this, imagine you bought a house, and it has a basement. But you are not allowed to go in the basement.

Do you need a reason to want access to your basement? It's your house right?

What if you just want to see what's in the basement, for all you know it's filled with illegal drugs or dead boddies, anyway you get my point.

It's simpler than that, really. Smartphones are just a computer, only much smaller and more portable and it has a radio capabilities. The average joes can buy computers from Walmart and Best Buy and any other box stores, and they will or they can become the computer's administrator or superuser just by turning on the computer the very first time and go through the Welcome steps.

The fact that manufacturers have to lock the phone is the failure on their part (and the OS maker's part) to provide a system that allows the user to do what they want, just like they can on a computer, and still secure the system. Or give a choice to the users on the level of security, and stand firm to media analysts calling such and such phone is insecure because it comes with option to provide administrator's privileges to the owner. This whole thing about security being tight because only the manufacturer can determine the phone's security level is just the wrong direction, IMO. It probably has more to do with the fact that historically, US customers buy subsidized phone from wireless providers, and flood the providers with customer support calls. The wireless providers are more interested in lowering the customer support call volume than the security of your private data (well, they care to the extent they can use it to brag in their ads).

All I need root for is AdAway, BusyBox, and Viper4Android. I wish Google would allow select apps root access... but I know that gets into the gray area like what the FBI is asking for Apple to do... there's no winning.

Coming from the note 4 I would say go for it. I'm a phone junky and I'm coming from the note 5. I miss the pen at times but I didn't use it heavily so I'll manage. Still missing the IR blaster but have found a solution for that. The phone is awesome. Great battery , super quick, aosp support, great and its water resistant. With tmobile jump on demand I'll just get the note 6 when I comes out. If you're coming from the note 4 I would say get it. Grab the edge since its hust a tad smaller. The regular s7 won't cut it.

What is that service
If you want ad blocking just go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-netguard-root-firewall-t3233012 Netguard can do adblocking. Don't download it from Google Play though. Download it from the Op's page he shows. To get adblocking done you will need to pay a one time fee for filtering network traffic which once you install Netguard and go to the Pro features. I do admit it bugs me that I get a notice all the time about vpn service turned on but it doesn't seem to hit the battery hard.

Ah I know about that one

I already pay for a VPN. Would rather not send my info over a unknown vpn.
