If you brick your Xoom, what does Motorola charge to bring it back to life? Is it cheaper to just buy a second hand Xoom off eBay?

If there is anyone who has gone down this path and who wants to share their experience it would be appreciated.

It's pretty difficult to hard brick the Xoom from what I have seen. The worst you will get is a soft brick or boot loop which are both easily fixed with a firmware flash.

I have a bricked Xoom, absolutely dead. I can hold down buttons until the cows come home and there is not even a flicker on the screen. If you damage the bootloader you are stuffed. Search these forums, it happens - not very often but it happens. Ironically mine was bricked trying to flash a stock ROM back over EOS by using RSDLIte. This Xoom had been flashed at least 20 times without issue.

Ahh, RSDlite. Yeah, your best bet would have been to use the fastboot images. IDK how much moto would charge but you could probably find a jtag service to fix it. They would probably charge around 60-80 USD.

Just for the info of anyone else in this predicament, I approached my local authorized Motorola repairer here in Melbourne. They wanted around $250 and their solution is to replace the entire motherboard. There was not an option for re-flashing the drive. I declined seeing as a refurb is considerably less.

I doubt they had JTAG facilities or the knowledge of how to use it if they did, they just replace the entire guts.

I have found plenty of places to fix an xBox, but not any to fix a Xoom. Sending it half way around the world, repairing it and sending it back will end up costing as much as getting a second hand one.

That is why they are called bricks. I will keep an eye out for a solution, but have little confidence. I should have been more careful. One lesson in flashing - follow the steps and not to rush.
