What I hate about the Pixel 2 XL

If they were trying to emulate apple or even compete with them they would have a higher storage option than 128gb.
Hell even chinese phones have a 256gb option these days.
Google dropped the ball on storage options for sure.
And thats the only thing holding me back from getting one
sent from my Note FE
They don't want you to have that option because it doesn't allow them to compete in the way they want. They want to eliminate the need for device storage by making it all stored in the cloud.

A perfect phone never existed and never will be one in history
you have to know this for a fact
all phones have flows (expensive - cheap - heavy -big -small -skinny - old specs - etc )
and you have to decide what is the most important thing to you and go for it

for example, to me ( vanilla android - OS update very fast ) this is way i got my Nexus 6 before and the reason i order pixel 2
other factors are important but these 2 things are a most for me

And to some people if they removed a thing it will not affect them
like the Headphone jack, i have not used a wired headphones in 2 years (in my phone)
i went full Bluetooth, so removing it is sad but it will not affect me

i wish it has 6 gigs of ram though
and i wish a good nexus replacement show up in the future
A perfect phone is relevant to the person. So many of them have existed. As for a generally perfect phone, it's not impossible. Facts are also a relative term. Scientific facts are always changing. Everything is just a perspective.

If they are trying to copy Apple or create a premium handset, then why is wireless charging omitted from the Pixel 2? I did not understand why that option is not present, while ever other flagship smartphone has it.. I also cannot understand not adding an SDcard slot, well other then to force you to buy the 128GB model and charge a huge premium like Apple does.

Edit: I was also really considering a Samsung S8 or Note 8 but after getting burned with a S7 Edge this pushed me toward the pixel. My S7 display had the pink line issue with the screen and was 2 months out of warranty so Samsung wanted to charge $200 for a DEFECT in the device that many others had and no recall was done. This really pushed me away from Samsung. I also had issues with the LG G6 bootlooping in the past and why I tend to avoid LG going forward.
Google is no different. The Nexus devices also had bootloop issues which were a hardware defect that Google did nothing about. Electronics are designed to start failing after a certain amount of time. It's cheaper and ensures that you have to keep buying new stuff. Haven't you ever wondered why stuff used to last so much longer than it does now? Every single manufacturer is going to have defects in the products they mass produce them. If you like the S8 or Note 8 don't rule them out because of a bad experience with the S7. It was out of warranty so that sucks but like I said the devices are designed so they fail outside of the warranty period.

I think they (and every other manufacturer) try to make a decision based on their analysis of what gets them the best return. You (the general you, or we... whatever) need to make a decision about which manufacturer's decision best fits our personal desires. If you can find one that is a complete match... awesome!

I have no interest in SD cards or wireless charging. I was kind of sad when the front facing speakers went away for the Pixel XL, so I am thrilled that they're back. I use headphones regularly, but just bluetooth sets... so I am fine with the ditched jack. I have never had anything resembling lag or slowness, so the performance specs seem great.
You nailed it, its all about the money aka the best return.

.
Considered response to op's whining snowflake post but yours says it better!
It really didn't because I had no idea what it meant. Also, you did respond to and that post proves it lol You're post is actually whining about my "whining". Kinda ironic don't you think?

They are not turning completely into Apple, they are just barely trying, come on I can buy an iPhones anywhere, with global warranty and more than 5+ years of software updates.

Pixels, on the other side, can only be purchased in 5 out of 195 countries no international shipping (they have a useless Google Store in more than 30 countries at the moment), no physical stores or pickup points for travellers, now they have 3 years of software updates (better than 2), and they mostly sell the pixels "on-demand". Stock never last etc. (Of course there are always stock problems, probably 50% of the Pixels purchased are sold at a much higher price to the rest of the world and with crappy warranty).

So, yes, Google is converting into Apple, but only in the bad sides of Apple. Apple has good sides (stock everywhere, warranty everywhere no matter where you purchased the phone, pickup locations, no inflated price, 5 years of software updates). I'd love to see google adopting these things from Apple, and not the bad things, like giving "exclusive" software features to Pixels (new iPhones) and separating the Pixels more and more from the AOSP.
They won't change into Apple overnight but they slowly will. Just give it some time. Apple has no inflated price? What fantasy world are you living in? Apple doesn't need to inflate the price they set the damn price and the rest of the market follows. Apple is completely exclusive they aren't open source. They also give exclusive hardware to the exclusive models they control...

Problem solved. Don't get one.
The problem is only partially solved by not getting one. The real problem is that people are okay with spending $1000 on a device that has so much missing.

My dislike is much more trivial. I hate the uneven top and bottom bezels. I guess I'm a sucker for symmetry.
Still gonna be the best phone on the market along with the V30.
I noticed that also but told myself I was just imagining it.

Sounds like you shouldn't get a Pixel 2 XL then. And by extension, you shouldn't clutter the forums with useless posts just to feed your inner drama queen.
My post is not clutter. It's properly titled you are the clutter fool.

What purpose would extra RAM serve on the device?
It would serve to help justify the price tag. More RAM means it can handle more applications running in the background. That's just more example of the purpose.

Well, good job. You just proved you are the biggest troll on XDA.

I'll be ignoring you now. GL with... Life. You'll need it.
Um I started this thread. So that makes you the troll and further proves you're a fool. I think you will be needing the luck more. So please take it back for your sake.

That's why you have lots of options!!! If you're not happy with what Google Is offering, then you should start looking at other phones... I'm getting this phone, because I'm done waiting for updates on my phone, they should be coming right next to Google not 2 or 3 months after Google release them...... I'm pretty sure I will enjoy this phone a lot!!!!

Wow! This thread has stirred up some feelings.
All I would say is maybe feelings of love and hate (and everything in between), should wait until you have this phone in your hands and a realistic review of it can be had. It probably won't be the best phone ever, but I'm willing to bet it's going to be really good and bring enjoyment and practical use to many.
I've had my Nexus 6P for just shy of 2 years and it's been the best phone I've owned. It isn't perfect and the continuous searching through all the custom roms has been fun, as it's always been with all of my phones.
I should have my Pixel 2 xl in my hands within the next 2 weeks and I'm excited.
Be well everyone!

Is Google turning into Apple?

I realize that these are all nitpicking complaints but come on. With that price tag, everyone should really be nitpicking.
The lack of 3.5mm headphone jack has me on the fence. Every time I see an iPhone user walking around with the adapter to listen to music I laugh. It looks so damn goofy and awkward. Picturing myself with the adapter and my Bose headphones for the Pixel XL just makes me shake my head.
I am replying for the bolded text only. For someone that seems to care an awful lot about listening to music you have a very odd choice in headphones. I have a hard time taking this seriously since Bose is not really known for their audio fidelity and yet you make an effort to point out the brand name.

The 3.5mm jack was a very big concern for me until I realized that the mass majority of my music listening is through a portable DAC/AMP.

Google wants you to use cloud storage as much as possible, it lets them glean more information and monitize it, which is their bread and butter.

The headphone jack is going away to rip the bandaid off and start down that path of new designs without it. They want to get the public used to it and also if you save a dollar per phone or more its huge to their bottom line. Likely they will not pass the savings to the end user...

Just hook the adapter to your wired headphones or dac.

There are many people having this issue, this is a problem that should be fixed by a recall. Samsung is replacing phones under warranty only and on top of that people that got replacement phones are having the same issue with the new device. On top of that the whole process takes about 2 weeks, so for 2 weeks you are out of a phone if you need to send it to a Samsung require center. That is pretty bad customer service if you ask me. I wonder how many people would want to be without a phone for 2 weeks. There is even a Facebook page created for this particular issue.

At least the LG phone that I had an issue with the replacement phone was actually fixed and the issue did not come back.

It's not about the sound quality. It's about the design of the ear tips. I can't stand over the ear headphones because they make my ears sweat. Plus I don't like the bulk so those are out of the picture. I've tried many in ear headphones. They all become extremely uncomfortable after about 30min of use. They always build up pressure and I have to constantly take them out. Then I always have the issue of them falling out. I can listen to my in ear Bose headphones for 12 hours with no discomfort. I've even fallen asleep in them. On that note though I've reached out to Bose about making a line of USB C headphones. They have proposed the idea to the engineering team.

I concur and that's the real reason they didn't include a sdcard slot or bigger storage options. The adapter bugs me a lot. I'll just cut off the 3.5mm jack and solder on a USB-C connector to replace it.

Recalls rarely happen anymore. Unless the device puts the person's safety at risk. It's just not cost effective to companies. They generally care more about money than the consumer. They are okay losing a few hundred loyal customers to avoid recalling thousands of phones.

The Nexus 6P has been my favorite phone. It's not perfect but the development support is fantastic! I was really into it. I even started making my own custom ROMs. I couldn't post them to any threads but I had a secret Hangouts group. I stopped making them though because I don't have the time anymore. Plus my external SSD got corrupted when the ****ing usbc came unplugged. I had a freaking boss Linux setup. I was so pissed off that I just said screw it I'm done.

I'm out of the XL 2 party. I got a good look at the screen bezels today and canceled my order. I like my flat screen so I ordered the regular XL instead. At least I'll be getting a larger phone as this 5" is pretty tough for me to read. Maybe next year Google...
Interesting that you say this, I didn't notice any curvature to the screen at all when I looked at one yesterday. Are you talking about the screen or the glass?

It would be the curve of the front glass. I saw this pic on Google + and it reminded me of the S7 edge I had and how the screen protector would peel off at the corners. I don't want another screen like that. I seriously like my 5" Pixel but it's a bit too small so the XL fits me just fine. I was excited to have ordered the 2 XL until I saw the pic and then confirmed it on other sights. If it wasn't for that I would be all over this.

Have you tried ordering some real IEMs? If comfort is an issue there are many companies that will give you the tools to make a mold of your ear canal and they will shape the IEM to so that comfort level is basically perfect.

Checkout https://www.head-fi.org/forums/portable-headphones-earphones-and-in-ear-monitors.103/ there are lots of good options and reviews from for good IEMs.

Or if you don't quite want to go that expensive you can *usually around 350+* for IEMs with custom molds you can stick to a good set of $100 earphones and get a set of these to make it comfortable https://www.amazon.com/Comply-Foam-Premium-Earphone-Tips/dp/B00AQU2U48?th=1

... i just hate to see people waste good money on bad ,over-priced audio products like that of Bose and Beats.

Oh, yeah. It's nothing like the S7 edge. The edges are curved but the screen is flat.

Thanks for clarifying. :good:

I actually got to check one out at the Verizon store today and the edges aren't all that bad. It's much less than what the picture was showing. Still there was one big negative... the demo unit was dead. That isn't the first report of a dead demo I have read. With that said I'll at least hold off purchasing this for a few and see if it's worth switching from a XL or not. I do like the XL2 with all it's sleekness but I'm a bit unsure right now.

Funny you should say that. I was just checking out a Verizon store today and one was not charging. The employees said it was like that when they got it, but are still displaying it becuase Verizon wouldn't give them any more floor units.

Yea, its a bummer. Have you tried those coatings?
