Question What is this white bar and how do i get rid of it?

Search This thread
This white bar, at the to right of the screen, just appeared effectively. Firstly, it is NOT the Edge Panel, that is at the lower left of the screen (doesn't show on screen grab) - that is useful and I want to keep it. Sometimes, if you hold your finger on the white bar, it will turn blue and then you can slide it to a dieter position on the right side but mostly it is unresponsive to touch. It appears on the home screen, lock screen and in apps.

I'm on One UI5 / Android 13 and, being Australian stock, I assume that is an Exynos device.

I've tried turning off Edge Panel, restating and clearing the cache partition, with no success. What is it and how do I get rid of it? View attachment 5775089View attachment 5775089

I'm guessing that's from the Samsung app "One Hand Operation". If you're using it, you should be able to reposition it & make it transparent.

If you don't have that app installed, I'm guessing it's something similar. If you haven't installed &/or used a similar app lately, I'd boot into "Safe Mode“ & open each app on your phone until you get it to re-appear.

It's Edge Panel. To turn it off go to Settings -> Display, scroll down to Edge Panel and toggle it off.

It's Edge Panels and to my knowledge you have to uninstall it to get rid of it.

I think you're right about it being "Edge Panels".

@antman68

At least on the S22 Ultra, it's not an app, but, a setting that is nested within Settings > Display & it can be toggled off.

Unlike the app "One Hand Operation", the tab cannot be made 100% transparent, but, the size & position can be changed.

Yeah. I just updated my original response.

No, as I said in my original post, it is NOT Edge Panels". I have used Edge Panels on my Galaxy Note 9 for several years and I know what they are and how they work. This is different.

As I said, I have my Edge Panels handle on the lower left side of my screen and it works as expected - this one, on the upper right edge, does nothing. Also, the handle for Edge Panels does not show in a screen grab, this one does. I have also tried switching off Edge Panels, rebooting and clearing the cache partition and it is still there.

No, I have One-handed mode toggled off and have never used it. I tried toggling it on and saw nothing different on my phone so itoggled it off again. Nor have I installed anything to enable any similar mode.

I guess I made the wrong conclusion, since Edge Panel looks just like what is shown in the Screenshot, even though you stated that wasn't the issue.

Sounds like booting into Safe Mode is the next step.

Please keep us posted.

It's not there in Safe Mode but almost every one of my apps is greyed out (unavailable in Safe Mode) so I can't enable them one at a time. I'm goint to work in standard mode and kill apps instead.

Using an app disabler may help as well, if killing the apps doesn't help in the troubleshooting process :

Okay, mystery solved! It was the Widget Drawer handle in the Lockscreen Widgets and Drawer app, which I use to show my blood sugars on the lock screen and in the clock window (when I use the clear view phone case). Since I don't use the drawer, just the widget, I toggled the drawer off. I don't remember toggling it on but I must have done it yesterday when I was working out how to get the widget to show in the clock window.
