I'm in Pointe-du-Lac and the reception is not the greatest. Most of the time when I'm at home, the network icon says 3G, or 4G. Does that matter?
There is no way to know until you try the device yourself. That's the issue with imported devices we wait for first guinea pig to try it and post how it works, sorry can't think of a nicer way to say this. And there's the issue with actual coverage at your place, geometry/obstacles/interference etc from operator's nearest cell towers.

There's only the local mobile providers' devices that are somehow guaranteed to work. I say somehow 'cause they occasionally sell phones with crappy reception in their own network as well.

Looks like I AM the guinea pig ;)
I placed my order anyway. We'll see.

I got a Note 5 (sim free). Bought it through Hong Kong, but despatched from Luxembourg , so no duty/VAT issues. Would recommend it. The spec is halfway between N4 and N7. I've installed a custom ROM with a N7 port, and it runs sweet and smooth. The lack of a SD slot is less of a problem than expected. I got a 64gig OTG and while not as convenient, it will do as a sort of external drive.

Just out of curiosity, what version of the Note 7 are you using? Did you get an Exynos model, or just a Canadian model? I've got the W8 Canadian model, and I'm so tempted to just keep it. Biggest concern right now for me is the lack of updates and root, and the theory that Samsung/Robellus *could*, in theory, push out a "big giant phallic appendage the wrong way onto the exit ramp" update that severely restricts or even kills use of the phone. I don't really think they would do that, but it's in the back of my mind for sure. Having the Exynos model would be more comforting, since at least then I could root it. With the W8, I'm not sure what to do....
My current one is a W8....tried to get another exynos but could not find one.

Speaking from experience Id much rather have a note 7 even if i can't root it than not have one at all.

Not too worried they will or even can disable it...all my update crap is disabled and I know that works as I never got the battery charging OTA on my exynos using the same apk to disable and even if they block the imei thats easy enough to deal with.

Guys and girls since giving up my note 7 due to the recall I used an iPhone 7 plus as my daily driver and you might find my results shocking, I made a video here's the link
I will be doing a video on other alternative phone's and giving you my feedback and honest opinions
Err.. Nooooo thank you.

I would not consider an iPhone, ever, period.
I cannot understand the new wave of folks on XDA trying to convert ex Note 7 users to Apple. They are like doorbell ringing mormons!
I mean it's a totally different operating system, ecosystem and goes against everything we all love about Android.

It's an option, what are you replacing your note 7 with?

I will stick with Android firstly. I like the liberaration, customisation and choice. I have hundreds of apps and games already purchased and always available whatever Android device I go for.
My choice? The next best phone. That is the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
It's compatible with my Gear VR, fully compatible with my Gear S2/S3
Has the same amazing camera, screen, removable storage, always on display, water resistance, and much more. Furthermore it's still stunning to look at and although sadly no S-Pen , it's as close to the Note 7 as I can possibly get.
I am quite certain I made the right choice as a replacement to the mighty Note 7.

You used to have an Exynos version? Or am I misunderstanding?

I'm beside myself with disappointment over this whole fiasco... the worst part, to me, is that there's just nothing else out there that's even close to comparable. Nothing that's as slick and looks as good etc. So many features/functionality that's missing on all the other options, when comparing to the Note 7.

But maybe worse than all of that is the fact that Telus (and everyone else, it seems) is really not willing to offer much at all. They've basically said "screw you, take the S7 or S7E or something else old, or go to hell. But give us the phone back anyways.". ARRHHHHGG

p.s. how do you deal with the blocked IMEI??? I thought if the IMEI was blocked, it was essentially completely shut down from their end, and there was nothing you could do to get that phone back on their network. Am I wrong?

It's not an option though, not even close to an option, for many (most?) of us.

That would be like owning a truck, and using it to haul quads, bikes, material, camping gear, go hunting, etc etc, then being told it's recalled, and having someone suggest that you get a Prius to replace it with.

Sure, in theory, it's an alternative vehicle you could use to get you from A to B, in some scenarios, but it's certainly not an option to replace your truck with, if you intend to do most of the stuff you would normally have done with your truck.

Yes i had a exynos version which i stupidly returned for a refund....still kicking myself for that since I cant get another one.

Imei can be replaced...cant discuss here its against the rules but google it and you will see or check your local kijiji....lots of options.

Members here is my video on my thoughts regarding if the Pixel xl is a viable replacement option for the Note 7. Let me know if you agree or not.

i noticed you seems to have quite a few cons for this phone from display to battery life, why not get samsung s7 edge?

I have a s7 edge already which I have been using since its release from day 1, but it has become very laggy and it's hard to hold

Seems I've given in to the dark side as I went with the V20 for now... I was playing a bit with it in the AT&T store and liked it better than I thought I would. Trying it out for a week or so and will see what it does (they don't allow restock fees in my state). But who knows, while I miss the s-pen and Samsung Pay, this isn't half bad so far... who knows what will happen lol, this may very well be byebye to Samsung for me lol.. then again... I have to see about the battery, I barely make it through a day and that's without heavy use.

I had to make the switch, ordered a pixel xl, going to get it in a month. my s6 has become very slow and unresponsive to the touch screen for the top 1/2 of the screen. Im hoping by the time i get the phone, there will be some news on the s8, ill have 14 days to return the phone, so we will see. still miss my note 7
