Ugh, turns out the s10+ can't be rooted because of the bootloader. Looks like it's time to return the trash to amazon :/
Still on the lookout for a new phone lol

Hey everyone, I'm looking for a new phone soonish as my old one is starting to die on me. I'm buying in Germany and I tend to keep my phones for a while (current phone is a >6, maybe 7 year-old Galaxy S6). Still has some life left in it though, so I can wait if the next big thing(tm) is right around the corner.

I know enough to root and flash custom ROMs, but I'd rather stick with official software (hassle, missing features & other bugs -> very bad experience so far).

I'm a casual-ish user, don't game at all. Mostly use the phone to watch videos, read, browse the internet, etc. Camera is not important to me.

Stuff I want:
  • OLED screen (must)
  • Usable to good battery life
  • not too large (6.7" screen is too much, 6.5 is a lot, 6.0 is nice)
  • good build quality
  • software updates for a while (this is why i'm not getting a used flagship)
Some goodies/nice to have stuff:
  • wireless charging
  • NFC
  • maybe 5G
  • other things I can't think of atm
The Zenfone 9 looked pretty nice but apparently Asus has a bad track record with software support, so that's probably out.
Samsung has a good software support policy now, but Exynos is always a bit of a risk from my (outdated) experience. Is the battery life good/reliable on the more modern ones?

Google Pixels are also technically a possibility, but I dislike the company and would really rather buy from a competitor unless their phones offer something much better than the others.

Oh, I kinda forgot to mention this, but since I plan on keeping the phone for a while I'm somewhat flexible on the price. Don't really want to go >800 EUR though, and definitely not >1000

Google Pixel 6 Pro
I have OnePlus 8 Pro as my primary device and the OnePlus 7 Pro as my secondary device.
Thinking to buy a new device having the new device as primary and the OnePlus 8 Pro as secondary.
What should I buy better in camera and in general performance and hardware with active development (custom roms) compared to OnePlus 8 Pro so it can be considering as an update.
For now Pixel is not supported in Greece.

Thanks for the suggestion. As I said, I dislike Google but you make good points. I didn't know about the Pixels being good for rooting, that's also something to keep in mind. I might just wait until Samsung announces the S23 phones and then decide on either the 6a (wireless charging is not a dealbreaker, and the phone looks like great value overall) or a standard S23. Apparently those might have Snapdragons even in Europe? Anyways, I don't want to put too much faith into leaks. I'm just not really sure what to get yet, so I'll wait and see.

XDA is the right place to ask for advice!

Looking for some help with a budget solution (150,00 euro).
Already having eyes on a) Xiaomi Redmi 10C or b) TCL 30 or c) recommendations

  • small size
  • good battery life, USB type C charge
  • stable OS - few crashes (if RAM matters, then 4GB)
  • be able to remove most bloatware (nearly all stock apps)
  • micro SD
Major preferences:
  • OLED screen
  • recent model
  • IR blaster
  • fingerprint
Some goodies/nice to have stuff:
  • NFC
  • Dual Sim
  • eSim
  • good camera
  • water resistant
Not interested:
  • wireless charging
  • 5G
  • gaming
  • screen resolution / refresh rate
Can I debloat TCL 30?
About Xiaomi Redmi 10C -vs.- TCL 30 ?

Thank you for your input.

Looking for an unexpensive >10" tablet (sub 100 USD/EUR second-hand) that has good custom ROM support.

Hello everyone,

In France I see a looot of Xiaomi mipad and Huawei matepad which are really cheap and really good devices actually. Unfortunately the support for modern Androïd is off from the companies supporting them and the available custom ROMS are limited or require technical knowledge that I don't have.

So here is my question :

I need a tablet that is 10 inches or more, that has a good custom rom support (active forum etc...) for a really small budget.

What do you suggest guys ?

I got my hand on an old Pixel-C from 2016 for 70 euros ! but i need another tablet so I don't know what else to buy

best regards

Unfortunately tablet custom rom development is mostly dead. You would need to wait a couple of years to catch up to smartphones.

Stuck between Redmi k40 pro and poco f4, I mostly use my phone for playing games for an extended period so I don't really care about things like the camera, only performance and throttling. Any advice? Other options are welcomed too, within that price range. Thanks.

Redmi k40 pro seems the best out of those two. Then again, if all you care about is gaming, how about an Asus ROG 5? Way bigger battery, faster charging, way more optimized for gaming, compatible with a cooler accessory. Should provide a better gaming experience.

Hello, i am looking for a new phone. I dont like samsungs (as for the exynos chips in the UK) (at least not until there s23 and above are widely available lol)

lately i have been really stuck between either just saying **** it and go with a iphone or get the nothing phone 1 as its cheaper, its got that iphone design(LOVE the design), it has a decent snapdragon processor, 33wat fast charging, good battery life.

but then on the iphone side it has LONG update support, it has a refind OS, amazing performance, imessage and more but i dont wanna be trapped in the apple ecosystem but i again love the design but i HATE HATE that the iphone still used lightning instead of USB-C.

I want your advice on this should i go with the nothing phone 1 as its sick and tbh ive just heard some questionable things about the performance. please help i am so stuck. I want this phone to last me yrs.

between the iphone and the nothing phone, go with the iphone. nothing phone is really just a bad phone, that takes good design from apple. anything else about it is just mediocre.

yea i thought that but theres things stopping me like the price, the inability to install apks, im basically locked into the apple ecosystem and ik apple has improved on its customizability but its still no match to android and the huge notch like make it smaller i dont mind it but bro apple does it have to be that big?

Hello, I`m looking for phone with following specifications:

    1) Mediatek SoC based...
It's your choice, but I find Qualcomm to be better.
The Moto G Power 2022 (Mediatek) was a downgrade from the Moto G Power 2021 (Qualcomm 662).

Can someone answer, a jailbreaked iPhone 14 pro, or Google Pixel 7 Pro or Samsung S23?

I don't really care about cameras, since I never use them, I only care about performance and display, and modding and hacks
Ok, first of all, you can't jailbreak the iPhone 14 Pro. That device is preinstalled with an iOS version that doesn't have a working jailbreak yet. Second, an Android will always have better modding potential as long as its bootloader can be unlocked.

So, to answer your question, you're going to have to narrow it down to either the PIxel 7P or S23. Assuming you're talking about the normal Galaxy S23, comparing its chipset to Pixel 7P shows that the S23 chipset is way better. It's newer and more powerful (higher frequencies and lower lithography). But consider the 7P's Tensor G2 chip is still pretty powerful and can fit all your needs. You can also compare its benchmarks (courtesy of https://www.gsmarena.com). I don't know how accurate these data are though.
    화면 캡처 2023-03-06 094143.png

The S23's AMOLED screen is also 250nits brighter on peak brightness compared to the 7P. But note the 7P's display has 1440p resolution while the S23 has 1080p, so images could look sharper on the 7P's display.

One other thing to note is that the 7P offers 12GB RAM Options while the S23 only has 8GB but note that 8GB should still be plenty for your needs.

The battery is also something to note here. S23 has a measly 3900mAh battery compared to the 7P boasting a 5000mAh battery

Now consider the modding section. The Pixel 7P being a bit older has a better community. The S23 was not released too long ago so its development is still growing. I quickly skimmed the forums of both devices and the 7P has way more threads and things about modding (one example being a custom kernel). It also has more custom ROM options than the growing S23 as of right now. (You can take a look by clicking the "development" filter on both device forums)

I think this should be enough information no? Now you decide.

    Hope this helps ;)

You might want to go for a used Xperia 5 II/1III and up.
The 5 II has official Lineage support and the 1 III has trees up on the official org, so it will probably get official as well.

Excellent, I hope this will attract some discussion on new devices so new threads won't be opened.

I am not looking for a new phone right now, well maybe not depending on the outcome of HTC repairing my Sensation I guess. I sure hope to find out tomorrow. I think if I was going to get a replacement now I would probably get the SGS3 over the OneX. I really don't like the non-removable battery and maybe worse, no SD slot. I know why they did it for economic reasons but I am just not going to go that direction. Batteries do not last forever and their maximum charge level goes down over time. I want to be able to plug the SD into my computer and do a local backup. I also want to be able to get a bigger or faster SD if one comes out.
I am used to Sense but I am sure I could get used to Touchwiz as well, and I just read in the portal that ROM Cleaner works with the SGS3 now, as long as I can rid of the bloat I am content. I am sure that when my contract is done in a year there will be something newer and better out anyways. ;)

I hope it does aswell. These forums definitely have too many of those threads being created

I think I'd choose the S3 aswell to be honest. Even though the One X is a powerful phone, the S3 can quite easily out perform it, as it can with most phones.

The only time I'd be looking to upgrade is when mine become redundant, which with having an S2 (which can still keep up with the newest flagship devices) and Xperia S, I won't need to upgrade for a while I don't think.

I would take the Lumina. My girlfriend has one and its pretty good.

Never owned a tablet before.. flirting with the idea of a galaxy tab 2 10.1. As of current, I'm all good with my s3 but I'm kinda interested in what this next galaxy note 2 will bring. Guess I'm some sort of galaxy fan.. ever since my vibrant :p
