I have whattsapp installed on my HTC DHD. I now want to upgrade to a new phone but still use the same whatsapp account and number. The issue I have is that I am currently overseas and don't have access to the local number where the verification code will be sent. On the other hand I dont want to create a new account with the new number as this number is only temporary. So is there a way where I can verify my whattsapp account without having too get the sms? I don't have root access on my phone.

Sorry mate I don't think there's a solution for this...... Without your local number and verification sms... I don't think you can access your old account... :D:D

I read that you can do a backup and then transfer that data to the new phone. People suggested Titanium backup. The issue is that requires root access. I wanted to know what the backup does. If it just creates the APK to transfer or is it more.....

It will back up the data of the app too, and when it restores, the app will be in the same state it was when backed up. It won't ask you to verify a number again.

I used Ultimate backup
Will this also backup the app data like titanium backup?

What's big deal in using temporary number on what's app?
To use any of those backup tools you need to root your device.
Or the only solution is, if your Sim is with some one just tell them to put that Sim and share that verification code SMS.
