Everybody has different preferences, My guess is that most people like it because its super customizable with its eq settings. I never liked the app much because of its ui, music players in phones should be simple, dont need that many bells and whistles, thats why i use the samsung music player or the google play music player. :good:

+1 as much as I love poweramp..they really need to work on the ui, its not user friendly... these days I just use Google music with the awesome beats mod..I really wish Google music had a better widget.

PowerAmp is good, but I prefer free (well, I donated) MortPlayer Music. It doesn't have a pretty UI, but I like all the features and customizations. It also has widgets and a lock screen player. And for audio book fans MortPlayer Audiobooks is just awesome.

my reasons

1. EQ & audio quality - i have good speakers and headphones, and i notice a huge difference across players. yes, "good" is subjective and if you don't see a difference or if you prefer the sound of another player, then PA is not for you. but it is preferable to others, as it is to me, so that's one reason.
2. folder-browsing
3. playlist & queue creation
4. song-file management (delete, ID3 tagging, lyric-find, albumart-DL)
5. sleep timer
6. skinnable
7. numerous, skinnable widgets
8. lockscreen - I know other players are, but they weren't always so. many of us have been using this player back when it was the ONLY lockscreen player that worked well all-around, so we just got used to it and haven't seen anything better - not that others aren't on-par, but if we have all we need then it's not broken so we're not fixing
9. what Winamp for Android should have been

regarding "how can software affect..." : there is such a thing as decoders and renderers, which are software, which make a difference depending on what file format you use. try changing those settings for video in VLC and you'll see how software can affect something. having said that, i'm only speaking for video but i imagine the same is true for audio as well. i could be way off on the comparison so take this with a grain of salt unless others confirm.

as far as i remember, the trial is full-featured, it just expires and offers you to buy it. give it until then and if it's not doing it for you just say no thanks. i'm usually apprehensive about spending more than $2 on apps, but i fell in love and the thought of losing it made me gladly throw money at the devs. :highfive:

EDIT: to be fair, it's not car-friendly unless you're just hitting back/forward. the UI is a bit clunky but you get used to it (not like extra steps, just not always logical). as someone said earlier, phone players should be simple (or something to that effect). personally, i sit there and use the app like i use winamp, clicking in and out of menus and folders and renaming and re-tagging and making playlists so this sort of interface suits me well but if you're not obsessive about music management you might find it too busy. i'm a 1,000-features kinda guy.
