What's the use of rooting your NEX?

I used to root my devices for years. Rooting a device allows installing apps which need root, and installing custom roms that allow more settings and tuning. Nowadays many settings are included stock, and most apps which need root have a similar app which doesn't. Since I bought my NEX, I didn't miss anything. So my question is: what's the need of rooting your nex?

I haven't rooted any of my phones for several years for the same reasons.

Well since you ask..
1, System-wide ad-blocking.. Yes browsers these days come with ad-blocking support. But have you been able to get rid of the stubborn ads that pop up in other apps. I know ads support the developer. But sometimes, they overdo it.

2, Substratum theming support (without Andromeda).. The Vivo's themes are garbage. Substratum could open up a world of opportunities.

3, Uninstalling junk system apps. Yes there is a method by which we can "uninstall" without root. But that's not a proper uninstall cuz the app is still in the phone and simply gets disabled for the user.

4. Making build.prop changes to add subtle tweaks that could improve usability in areas where the phone maker doesn't give a damn.

5. ViperFX..

So on.. And so forth.. Yes we can live without these things. But having them is definitely an improvement in smartphone usage... Especially with a beautiful beast like the Nex.

Cheers :)

Meh!
1. My adblocking is system wide through my always-on vpn Windscribe and works better than most adblockers.
2. I don't use themes but I'd like to have a full dark mode.
3. I'm not bothered by them.
4. Not interested.
5. I can live without Viper.

I've never really been a modder but have used root to add functionality. These days the granular controls of miui, emui and funtouch take care of most of my needs.

It's my fault and I should have done due diligence, I am never buying another Chinese phone if I'm not sure it isnt rooatable.

No powerful adblocking
No powerful privacy apps/controls
Chinese malware/bloatware preinstalled that I can't remove. Some that run 24/7 and cant be locally uninstalled without breaking the phone. Drain battery life etc
Phone is way less customizable

I will never buy a Vivo phone again, its a shame because the NEX is awesome. Waiting on S10 release, I am getting rid of the NEX.
