Same here.

I think they will launch it with Official Oreo release.

But if You can't wait then just use Debian NoRoot from play store. It works pretty well.

I returned my dex. It constantly dropped the Ethernet connection, making it useless for remote desktop over VPN. This sounds interesting but I'll wait until Samsung gets dex to a basic level of functionality before trying it out again.

I just got my DeX... now I gotta wait for the linux release :-/ any way to get a beta of it?
The disappointment here is, Samsung will be releasing another version of Dex.. I suggest returning it if possible and wait a few weeks. They quietly pulled this $hit with Gear VR recently.. Made great addon offers with crap that goes obsolete soon after.

Dex dock has nothing to do with the Dex software functionality and possibilities.

you can get dex function to work with prety much any usb-c to hdmi dongle.

not sure what your wording is ment to say but i have my Bluetooth keyboard and mouse connected fine while using dex software and usbc dongle. i understand that the dex dock helps to mutiplicate ports but again, this has nothing to do with dex as a functionality.

there are also cheap knock off docks at a fraction of the price

Ya, same here.. They have been dragging on this. Personally , not interested in running Android as a Desktop.
Would be nice to have a Native Linux desktop with with using phone as a touch pad at least.
This would have to be a complete Firmware update to have Linux partition built in. Didn't release with Note 8 Oreo from what I seen so far..

It's already setup to pre-order one..

As for doing this..:good:
About to install Kali top 10 on phone again and will route "when docked" w/ original DEX, to launch Linux Deploy/VNC. Also with option of wireless screen cast option .

Damn it. I want Linux running natively on my phone so badly. What a tease.
It will be here soon, maybe with the next Galaxy Note. It will be based on a Virtual Machine environment running on your device. They will have pre-loaded .img that you can download.
You cannot load the .iso and run the installer.. ARM architecture and a total different environment that needs to be emulated.

I know for fact that it will be called LinuxOnDex ^^

This is bad news. I was hoping they would find a way to "Freeze" Android and run a usable standard Linux Kernel natively. This has many advantages, including running efficiently and native file formatting.

Some geniuses made it possible for us (Android Users) to run Linux in a Virtual Machine environment for years now and display out using VNC.
(Search Google Play Store Linux Deploy)

Now Samsung comes out with overpriced hardware and pushing it with Open source development from others.
