From what I have seen since getting my V20 LG are crap with security updates and firmware upgrades.
But then there's people that are long time LG users saying that LG are pretty fast at pushing them.
The impression I'm getting is that the International variants come lowest on LG's priority list.

I'm in Europe and I bought LG V20 Asian model two weeks ago. Straight away there was update to 1 Mar security update.

What's the benefit of 7.1? I'd love to see battery % on 2nd screen without 3rd party apps. Also will it improve battery life?

The primary appeal to 7.1 over 7.0 is that 7.1 supports Google daydream VR, since our devices don't meet the requirements (according to Google anyway) it would be a pretty worthless upgrade.

"Android 7.1 adds native API support for implementing image keyboards; multi-endpoint telephony; shortcut menus and rounded icon assets for apps on launchers; and support for the*Google Daydream*virtual reality*platform.*The Google Daydream feature is a specific "VR mode", with advanced technology for reduced graphics latency,*a "sustained performance mode" to assist developers in optimizing apps to a device's*thermal profile,*a new head tracking algorithm which combines the input from various device sensors, and integration of system notifications into the VR user interface."

I honestly couldn't care less for 7.1.1 but why LG issued only V10E for it's 990DS model? Where's 10M? Why 990DS is too slow to receive updates?
7.1.1 fixed a lot of little annoying bugs for my brother's Nexus 6p so I'm looking forward more to that or 7.1.2 than Android O as every new major release always seems to end up being a SNAFU. Course maybe that was just a Samsung thing as this is the 1st LG phone I've had and no clue how reliable their updates are

LG was on par with the security releases since I got the phone in Jan of this year. What I have noticed is that the past two month there was no updates, so something big is coming soon is my guess for missing the past two months.

I've noticed the V20 gets really slow for no apparent reason. I have a little CPU monitor on it that show's 100% on all CPU's and usually I'm just sitting on the homescreen when it does that, or maybe in hangouts messaging, nothing crazy. Its freakin July and I'm still on 7.0, only have gotten a couple security updates since I bought it in January. I should have learned my lesson and went all Google but my phone at the time was, for all intents and purposes, unusable, LG had a $200 promo and the Pixel I wanted was backordered by a couple months, not to mention $800, didn't have external storage, and no IR blaster, which I use daily, so I went with that. Overall it's been nice, but the slowness is killing me for a 6 month old phone.
UGH.

You must not know LG very well. Nothing big is coming anytime soon I'm.

- I wish it had an LED. I feel a flashing coloured light would be more noticeable than a white icon in the second screen.
- LG's stock keyboard is not great, and if you use any other keyboard except LG's you get this annoying keyboard icon in the notification tray. I use Swype, and I cannot get rid of the icon.
- No root for the H990DS, which means I can't get X-Posed and the few modules I grew to find essential for my uses. One being a Swype mod. Another is an ad-blocker for YouTube.
- No root also means no LMT Launcher. The screen is the largest I've used, and one handed use is near impossible. If we had root I could install LMT Launcher (pie controls), which I've grown to depend on for huge devices. All other pie control apps I've tried pale in comparison.
- No root also means no custom ROMs. No customisation at UI level. Something I miss is being able to set the phone so screen will not come on when I plug in or unplug my phone to charge. I've NEVER needed it to come on when I plug in or unplug. I'm not alone here cos CyangenMod ROMs have given this option for YEARS.
On the matter of one-handed use, on the H918 we have Mini View which allows you to shrink the screen to the left or to the right by swiping along the navigation/switcher bar at the bottom of the screen. It's conceivable that it is device specific, but it could also be that you couldn't find it because of the feature's stupid name.

And on the keyboard notification thing, it shows up for me too, but only when I'm typing. And when I'm typing, it doesn't matter that much. It doesn't exactly require or otherwise draw attention. And if memory serves, that notification has been present on all phones and all devices I've used in the past few years.

When I was using OnePlus 5 I notice that it was having fingerprint login for some apps. It was really cool ? and convenient. Is it OnePlus specific feature or 7.1.1? If 7.1.1, than I need it. LG V20 should update faster than other phone, as this was the first phone, which comes with Nougat 7.0 out of the box.

Certain apps will let you use fingerprints to log in. PayPal Starbucks are a few that I can think of right meow. Unless you are talking about something different
OnePlus's App Lock makes you use fingerprint just to open the app.
You can lock any app so that you have to authorize to open it.

I use SwiftKey and had that annoying problem as well. What I found out was to go into Settings > Language & Keyboard > Current keyboard > SELECT MORE and turn off all the keyboards you don't use. Hope this helps.
