Note: if your get update with the disconnection trick, your carrier has approve the update.
Mary jo Foley replied to me when asked for details for unbranded phones saying "Sorry, I dont know"According to @maryjofoley
Microsoft claims It's business as usual with Windows Phone updates: http://t.co/IaEPGb8e #windowsphone #wp Thoughts?
So nothing has change, unbranded phones will get the update , we should just wait ?
Why would the competitors "panic" on news that microsoft stopped posting progress reports online, and gave roll-out control back to the carriers ?This is @joebelfiore tweeted 2 minutes ago!
ps - on updates, pls don't overreact, our focus is on users first! As greg said "nothing has changed" in how we work w carriers on updates.
This is him again tweeted 20 minutes ago!
Hopefully everyone reads @maryjofoley piece. http://zd.net/zDFzyP Greg tells the story, but punchline is: it's all good in the hood.
Also this one is THE most interesting in terms of what we should be expecting for TANGO and APOLLO
Trust me .. the team is busy building LOTS of new things. You can tell because I've been tweeting less lately.
Hopefully this was just a short panic attack rippled largely by the competitors!
@ChrisK91 said:@NokiaHelps Is the new #WP7 update already being pushed out to unbranded Lumia 800s? Or do we still have to wait :-/

End users panic due to wrongly worded blog post. Competitors make sure they ripple it harder as anything bad about Microsoft spreads faster than wildfire in a forest. Considering Microsoft delivers two major updates a year (so far) the updates not forwarded by operators anyway get bundled with Microsoft updates. The operators can only skip one update. So example if current 8xxx update is on hold it by your or my operator, we get it in 2-3 months time with Tango. Why would the competitors "panic" on news that microsoft stopped posting progress reports online, and gave roll-out control back to the carriers ?
It sounds more like the end users are panicing and mad that they cannot watch and know when to expect the next update.
Also what you did was add log to fire here. NO end users dont feel that they dont know when to expect the next update because The Blog dedicate to updates is shutting down and update info is being moved/merged to The Windows Phone website. So its still going to exist in some form may be not detailed enough unless its major one.Why would the competitors "panic" on news that microsoft stopped posting progress reports online, and gave roll-out control back to the carriers ?

That is apparantly not true anymore. Sure, changes and bug fixes introduced in 8107 will also be in Tango, but some carriers were apparently able to skip both 7740 and 8107 (or they are still in testing or sheduling). The operators can only skip one update. Ahhhhh, I hadn't considered that viewpoint. Astroturfing by oems is very popular now, agreed.End users panic due to wrongly worded blog post. The short tweet I saw didn't state this, but the subsiquent replies didn't sound like typical astroturfing... they sounded like end users. I like to believe I can tell the difference. Also what you did was add log to fire here. I recommend reading Joe's blog and Mary's recent blog (will dig up the links if I can from my browser history). What they have mentioned is, especially Mary, that it hasn't changed in terms of what was being regulated pre-Mango and post-Mango with carriers. The carriers guidelines are still the same. The carriers pre-Mango could only hold on to one update. I highly doubt many have withheld 7740, but if they have, they will have to force 8107 anyway! The ones that don't force 8107 will have to bend over when Tango comes in (hopefully in next 60 days!)That is apparantly not true anymore. They way I read it is that some updates (like 8107 and possible also 7740) are not mandatory and carriers can completly control whether they want to distribute them or not. So if a carrier did not request and distribute 8107 they can still skip the next update.

I am really keen on understanding the term Astroturfing's reference here. I have heard it with footy and cricket, never for smartphones! Enlighten me please! The short tweet I saw didn't state this, but the subsiquent replies didn't sound like typical astroturfing... they sounded like end users. Well come carriers have not released 7740 nor 8107 to their customers, so like I said earlier if 8107 is not in testing or scheduling (which might very well be true), they have skipped two updates in a row.I recommend reading Joe's blog and Mary's recent blog (will dig up the links if I can from my browser history). Yep, my HTC Radar on TMOUS hasn't received either update. It only has an HTC update which when installed on my other Radar, didn't bring me up to 7740 or obviously 8107. Not sure if or when I'll get either, but waiting until Tango is pushed out is ridiculous. We shouldn't have to wait that long to have a keyboard fix (which is driving me nuts!!!!!), or to fix a serious security flaw in the messaging bug. These type of updates should never be "by request', but an immediate mandatory update.Well come carriers have not released 7740 nor 8107 to their customers, so like I said earlier if 8107 is not in testing or scheduling (which might very well be true), they have skipped two updates in a row.
