Input from an Android Newbie

I'm new to this forum, and this is my 1st post to it.

My pre-Android mobile device background was Palm, then iOS (starting with iPhone 4).

I'm new to Android so please pardon any ignorance or misunderstanding I might have regarding Android-specific nomenclature,...

My 1st Android device was the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, which I used with the stock Samsung launcher.

I've been using LG's stock launcher for the LG v20 (Home v4.0). I've used the "Home with separate apps list" setting for the "Home screen settings / Select Home" parameter. Until today, I'd found no compelling reason to consider switching to a 3rd-party launcher.

However, as I've moved some apps to "External storage" (SD card), I've seen extensive evidence suggesting that this launcher -- WITH the "separate apps list" selection -- will not retain icons for SD-card-stored apps either on the Desktop (whether or not contained in a folder) or in the Dock. I can copy such icons out from the App Drawer and place those copies in one of the aforementioned locations. After doing so, those icon copies appear to persist during the CURRENT Android session. However, once the system is restarted, those icon copies appear to be gone. The icons remain available in the App Drawer, but I'd prefer to retain icon copies in what I consider to be the primary Home screen interface.

It was this anomaly that compelled me to briefly investigate Nova, Google Now, and Action Launcher 3, as well as to consider using Home v4.0 with its default "Home" setting for the "Home screen settings / Select Home" parameter. However, my initial perception is that none of these alternatives will suit me better, despite the fact that each alternative appears to avoid the "disappearing icon" problem I describe in the preceding paragraph. I hope that LG considers what I'm describing as a problem. resolves it (after verifying it) in the subsequent Home update, releases the update ASAP.

I've tried A LOT of launchers in my use of Android and Nova Launcher (Prime) is the one I go back to the most. It's very stable and it is quick.

If I feel like switching around I use Smart Launcher Pro which is a different interface but it is good at sorting your apps by category.

Action Launcher Pro is another good one, though not as fast as Nova the menu system on it is great (automatically sorts your apps by letter) and makes it easy to find your apps if you have a lot lot.

That will happen. Your SD card might have a slow read time. Just wait after a reboot and the app icons will show up.

I have a Samsung SD card with a very fast read/write time. So I don't have "much" of a delay.

Plainfield
Action Launcher 3, hands down. Nova Prime is cool but, their gestures are limited. Plus, you get the Pixel launcher pretty much with AL3. And yes it has double tap to kill the screen.
Never tried this launcher until your post. Bought the pro version immediately because I fell in love with this thing! I've been a Nova Prime user for years and I'm ready to give it up now.

Question though: I have it set up to lock the device with a double tap. However, when I try and use my fingerprint to unlock it, it won't allow me to and forces me to use my knock code. It says the phone was locked by a device administrator. Is there any way around this? It's the only flaw I've found in this launcher. I should be able to still unlock my phone with my fingerprint I would think?

I'm looking for an answer on the administrator issue as well. However, you can turn off the double tap setting and double tap on the status bar and get the desired effect. Not as convenient as double tap anywhere but it's an option of the other doesn't work.

Yeah, I forgot about that issue. My bad. Done trained myself to posh the back button. Guess we need to inform the dev of this issue.

Thanks for the tip. Didn't know/forgot about the double tap status bar.

Stock home launcher. Been using nova prime with every phone. But that administration lock thing is bugging me. When they fix that I'll switch back to nova. Also I was experiencing lag with nova when flipping through the home screen. But so far so good with the stock home launcher. I do miss the gesture swipes on nova.
