Who is still using their Note 7?

Sorry I cannot help answer your question, but I hope you won't mind me asking another related question on your thread? Perhaps if anyone can answer, it may be relevant.

Does anyone know whether once issued, OTA updates are out there *forever*? Or can you miss them? I am not talking about Note7's or even about Samsung in general. Just about OTA updates. If you have a phone and it prompts you for an update and you avoid it, will there come a time when that update is no longer being pushed?

Where I am going with this is, is there a future time when I can uninstall Package Disabler Pro? Or will I get the update the moment I uninstall it? I'd like to uninstall it really, but am worried I will wreck my phone the moment I do that.

Hello everyone,

I am brand new here and apologize in advance if my answer is buried somewhere on this site.

I have a replacement Verizon Note 7 (green battery icon, still charges to 100%, holds charge without cable) that keeps wanting me to install an OTA update from time to time. I have avoided the installation by pressing the home button to make the message go away. It has no SIM card because Verizon blocked my number and I am giving my business to a better carrier, IMHO.

My question is will a simple factory reset allow my phone to forget the somewhat pending OTA update(s)?

Your advice is appreciated sincerely,
"Note8Wait"
No.....the OTA will still keep popping up

OK thanks. Since I want my VR back, I think I am going to swap my Note7 for an S8 in April anyway. I am very pleased I've hung onto it though, so that this is an easy swap. Had I been locked in to a 2 year contract on a S7 Edge, the S8 upgrade would not be an option.

Ill be doing the same but only because the Ahole carriers here in canada blocked all our note 7s from the networks...pricks.

Sucks because mines still able to charge to 100% to.....stupid snapdragon model...if it was exynos it would still work on the networks probably

I agree. It's been very quiet in terms of nastiness coming from them in well over a month now. I think they've reached the point where it's diminishing returns trying to get the last few % back.

Which gives me somewhat of a dilemma. Do I keep my N7 forever, knowing i can never update it and not being able to use GearVR? Or do I return it at some point, and if I do, will I be able to get my money back. I guess if I cannot get my money back, then it makes the decision for me, so I cannot really lose.

And the fact remains, there is still no phone out - or even announced - that gives me all the features I love about the N7.
If you are in the states I see no reason why you can't get all your money back. There is no expiration date on this recall. I'm sure there will be blow-back, but I intend to return mine when the Note 8 becomes available for a complete refund! I don't know what to do with my VR as I'm not sure if newer phones will fit it.

I'm in the UK, but there is ZERO doubt and I will DEFINITELY be able to get all my money back.

All Note7's here in the UK are prevented from charging now, so all I have to do is reset my phone, take it back and say "this thing you sold me does not work". That provides me with full protection under EU law, recall or no recall.

I have 6 years to take it back, since UK law requires for up to 6 years after purchase, you can claim if the goods were not of "satisfactory quality" at the time of sale. Since Samsung have already admitted that the Note7 is not of satisfactory quality, then it's a bit of slam dunk.

I am going to cancel my contract, get my money back and get an S8 in April. Although it pains me greatly to be giving Samsung my business, to be honest. If there was a comparably good phone from ANY other manufacturer, I'd buy that instead.

No need to give up your Note 7 is you just want to use GearVR.
Install custom recovery, root, then install custom rom like Hydra.
All done. With Hydra your Note claims to be S7Edge, and Oculus and GearVR will work fine.
If you prefer stock rom with root, or other custom rom, just edit the build.prop to fake your device model.

If you factory reset your phone, the pending update is definitely gone.
BUT it will come back if you connect your device to internet (Wifi/mobile data) and don't protect you Note against this.

A side effect of factory reset is that all protection measure you've done in the past (like package disablers, ADB script, firewall..) are gone too and you've to re-protect your Note against the updates.

If your phone model is Verizon you can simply do this by hiding the update packages with ADB.
Just pm me, if you like this, we've have a script that automatically will do this for you. Of course, it's free :)

Is there a way to go to flash a zip that has all these protective apps auto install and activate?
Not that I know of.

Your better off doing all of it manually anyway. Anyone can flash a zip and of course then learns nothing in doing so.

Thanks mate, I appreciate the advice and did not realise Hydra would fix it.

However, currently I use two features of my Note7 almost daily, the secure folder using iris scanning and Android Pay. It would be a real pain if I could not longer use either of these. Am I right in thinking that I would lose both if I went down the Hydra route? I think I'd also lose Android pay at least (maybe both) if I rooted as well, wouldn't I?

Maybe I am wrong, but I think perhaps my choice is to keep AP and secure folder, and lose GearVR, or go GearVR and lose the first two?

Or go S8, and get all three features, but lose the pen... which I also use. The vanilla Note7 was indeed my perfect phone and I still cannot find anything to replace it.

Sans SIM, Successful Hard Factory Reset on Note 7

After backing up my Note 7 and removing the SIM card, I am pleased to report that the dreaded OTA update I successfully dodged for months when I was a Verizon customer no longer appears after a hard reset (simultaneous press of Home, Power, and Volume Up buttons and then choosing factory reset from menu)!
