With Xfinity I'm getting a trade in of $550.00 for my S21 256gb.
My S22 256gb will be my backup.
Pre order upgrade to 256GB.
Received my S23 Latercase today, buttons and cameras don't line up with a S22.

UPDATE: shipping notice, 2/11
est delivery 2/14

Hi,

Did anyone here upgraded from OnePlus 7 Pro or 8 Pro to S23 Ultra? If so, did you think it's considerably bigger in the hand/to use?

Thanks

I'm contemplating between the S23+ and the OnePlus 11 5G. The main reason is that all regions of this phone will get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 which will be amazing for custom ROMs, but the OnePlus offers much better value for the price. I'm only hesitant with the OnePlus due to the lack of ROM support with the 10 Pro. I'm still daily driving my OnePlus 6T with a Pixel Experience A12 ROM, but the battery life and slight lag are really starting to show its age.

This will continue with the OnePlus 11 as it's been confirmed that OppoPlus is still requiring VIP signatures to use the MSM Tool. Devs don't want to risk having to fork out a lot of cash to fix their devices.

OppoPlus is always releasing delayed and broken kernel sources too.

Will this be an issue with Samsung considering all models this year will have the same chip? I remember reading about older US Samsung phones with Snapdragon chips not having ROM support due to bootloader issues and Knox locking or reducing features like charging limits. If that's still the case then would it then be wise to get the International variant, or is it safe pre-ordering the US Unlocked version? I'm hoping that ROMs will work internationally akin to the Note 3 days.

You are correct that the Samsungs in the US and Canada are still locked down. The other regions that weren't locked down still appear not to be (although there have been many reports of some in the UK being locked down while others are not so it's unclear there).

Buying an international variant is not recommended. Multiple US carrier bands are missing on the international model, including T-Mobile's band 71 that's key for coverage in many areas and multiple bands for AT&T. It's also quite likely the phone won't be able to access 5G on AT&T and/or Verizon due to whitelisting by both of them (AT&T may not even activate it at all as it won't be on their network whitelist yet either).

The reality is that the only viable option for modders right now is the Pixel series of phones but it's clear that the market is moving towards a locked down future.

Man that's really disappointing. As a power user who sometimes does emulation on the side, the Tensor chip really doesn't cut it for me as a 4+ year upgrade. The camera, build quality, and software for the Pixel 7 is amazing, but the performance is 2 years behind. Are there any Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 phones this year that have good potential for custom ROM support and support T-Mobile US bands?

Not that I know of. OnePlus 11 still has the MSM Tool locked behind a technician login and I'm expecting that to kill third party development like it did for the 10 Pro and 10T. Devs don't really develop for Motorola phones either. Xiaomi and the other Chinese brands have the same band problems.

I have the Pixel 7 Pro and it's been better than my OnePlus 9 for just about everything I've used it for. I was actually very happy with it other than the battery until the screen started acting up (and then the replacement did and now the replacement for that replacement is flickering more and more each day too).

Switched from Pixel 7 to S23 and so far the S23 seems way better than the Pixel. Fingerprint sensor is way faster and more reliable than Pixel. Bloatware is a little bit annoying in the beginning but once you get rid of that its a great phone. It also seems more stable in general and a lot of the tweaks Samsung did make a lot of sense.

I have the S21 Exynos and I am tempted to get the S23 256GB. The current phone has quite bad battery life on 4g/5g and it stutters when scrolling. I expect S23 to be better in these aspects.
On the other hand, I will travel to China in May so there are many cheap options to get from there: OnePlus 11, Xiaomi 13/13 Pro, Vivo Iqoo 11, Moto X40. They are all good on paper but software reliability and updates from Samsung are unmatched in Android world. What to do? :))

These aren't the same form factor too

    S10e to S23.
The S10e update cycle is ended and battery life is not great anymore.

I took the leap to upgrade despite the trashy trade-in amount, because my used S22 with paint-peel on bezels and micro-scratches on screen isn't going to fetch a good buyback price via third party vendors, and may be even lesser than what Samsung offer.

I hope S23's battery performance will be good enough for me to hold 3-4 years.

Edit: Got my sanity back, cancelled my pre-order, decided to save S$585 to spend it elsewhere.
