Now call me ignorant, but I don't really know what these have advantages over others like froyo roms (UKB 2.1) I flashed MIUIWIZ last night and am absolutely loving it but I'm curious to know the pros and cons to each. Can anybody help?

Well first of all, CM7 and MIUI are AOSP roms. Everything else for the fascinate up to date is based on TouchWiz. TouchWiz is samsung's way of giving us all the shaft. It's samsung's GARBAGE proprietary code. AOSP (android open source project) is pure Google android code. TouchWiz is completely inferior to AOSP in performance, smoothness, speed, battery life, customization etc. etc. The ONLY thing TW has over AOSP is complete functionality. But, even that is about to change once jt1134 or navenedrob get mms working on AOSP. AOSP is simply a better and frankly more enjoyable user experience. But, I give credit to TSM for making TW bearable with their awesome roms and builds.

In my experience with ComRom2.1 vs the latest cm7, you get better battery life with cm7 and Netflix works. Both are fast and, frankly, I was getting pretty good battery life with ComRom (but not as good as cm7). Even though cm7 is getting more polished, sound still doesn't come out of the Samsung car dock, volume through rear-speaker and ear-speaker is low, and picture messaging doesn't work.

Don't forget that CM7 is also based off of 2.3 gingerbread so you have all of the 2.3 bonuses.

From what I have learned in reading, flashing, testing, and using is that TW is not the mass murderer that many people make it out to be. If you are a developer you will absolutely hate it for many reasons I don't care to understand.

CM7 in its current form (as many have stated) is not complete though the large CM7 gorilla in the room has been exchanged for a small small monkey. MMS is about all that doesn't function correctly which, depending on who you talk to, is not a big deal. Personally I have people mms my email and it works the exact same.

GPS, call volume, and sensors where the CM7 deal breaker for me but with patients we have seen them all disappear. In a few weeks it will be in its early beta stages without a doubt.

So the short version

TouchWiz = Samsungs ***** :(
AOSP = Nobodies ***** :D

Thanks everyone for your input! This has been very helpful. I think I'm going to try out CM7 right now and post my feedback ITT as well. Thanks again for the great breakdown everyone!

*edit* Also, I know this must have been asked a thousand times, but can someone link me to a walkthrough of how to install CM7?

Installing cm7 is the normal routine. Go to jt1134's cm7 thread, at the bottom of his post he has attached the proper cwm to use. Install one of those, wipe data/cache/dalvik and then flash the rom. The phone will automatically reboot after flashing it. Once it boots up, boot back into recovery and flash gapps and then reboot. Enjoy!
