why doesnt gmail open jpg attachments?

Rotate it 90 degrees and try it again... Then you should be able to choose a default program it it will work every time... This is a well known bug in HC.

ive had a xoom since feb and have always been able to open jpegs and other attachments from gmail, exchange, and other POP and imap accounts setup on it.
