Thanks man, I'll try that. People have said it should consume very little. When you have it on and it drains a lot, does that show up on your battery usage? I wonder if it's just listed under "screen" (which wouldn't be very helpful).
It was listed under screen :) with that option on, battery won't survive 12 hours with moderate use. Without battery it crossing the 30-35 hours with no charge needed. Take into consideration i have just couple of apps installed, so minimum apps running in backgroud, otherwise hello charger every 10-12 hours ;)

Turn off Always_on display and you will notice big improvement. It consumes battery life like nothing else. I tried already both ways and noticed big difference.

Dang wow. OK I'll report back. Anyone else, feel free to chime in with your experiences please! I've heard Always On should only take about .8% per hour so Zaynoun's results sound way off from that.

It is going to be based against how you also use your phone with regards to wifi, data, bluetooth and all the rest. However, i myself have found very little extra battery drain through keeping the always on display active in its full capacity.

Everyone will have differing experiences.

I am taking usually my testing my phones' performance without installing apps, to see what is the ideal performance before start nagging battery life after having 10-15 apps running in backgroud

Picked up one today, cant say ive any complaints yet. Build quality spot on. Feels great in the hand, not bothered about the lack of cold feeling some seem to be. Sound from the speaker is as good as any other phone i have currently or before to compare against including iPhones, One M8(past), Nokia Lumia 735 and my Note 4. Headphone sound quality seem great too when i plug in my Senheisers with Spotify. Not tried my Fiio E6 amp yet with it but im sure there will be no complaints. Battery, who knows yet, worry about that next week, seems to charge really fast to that will do me nicely and camera seems really fast... All in all so far first impressions are very good. Looking forward to the months ahead when i go to town on it after i unlock the bootloader.

this is by far the cheapest flagship after a few weeks of launch i have ever seen!!
you can buy the G5 at vodafone for £410 and EE for £409 and unlock it straight away for EE and after 30 days for Voda. The phone is as fast as the S7 and despite the somewhat lacklustre design and slight moulding issues (which for me is a minor)- at this price I can forgive!

I am a happy bunny with this bargain!!!!!!

Ok... Manufacturing in many asian countries is cheap compared to the rest of the globe excluding mexico. Its not an insult its a statement of fact. You have expensive Asian manufacturing in Japan and they blow nearly everyone out of the water in terms of quality production.

China, Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, Mexico are all known for cheap sub par manufacturing across the globe. We in the US get to be proud of our overpriced sub par manufacturing...
sorry but I have to say Korea build some of the best consumer electronics and it ranks higher in some cases than the almost bankrupt tragedy that is Sony. I wouldnt group Korea with China etc at all. Korea is more in line with Japanese in manufacture and QC.

Stop bull****ting, phone is not even available on pay as you go on EE and Voda. In fact it is still selling around £500 all over the internet apart from ebay.

yeah poor sony check the financials they been a declining company for years since samsung ruled the roost. only parts that make any money for them is the movie side of things and playstation, and even they are being dragged down by the rest of the underperforming company. all the bankers been telling them to spin off as seperate companies the movie and gaming arms for years. mind you they are in the black just about based on 2015 annual report so maybe they can turn things about

When I was a kid "made in Japan" meant cheap crap. By the time I was 18 or 20 Japanese cars were rivaling the Germans and the American vehicles were ****. In the 90's the Korean cars came on the market and now are among the best (Hyundai, Kia) in the world. Iphones are know for the high quality built, the best of all, and are manufactured in China. If you think all things good are manufactured in USA and everywhere else is low quality you are quite deluded.

I purchased mine from ebay, a H830 ( T-Mobile) unlocked for 470$ inclusive shipping :) Super saver price for such a flagship. On ebay and swappa you will find even prices as low as 420$ for a brand new T-Mobile one.

Well thats bloody fantastic. If G5 can fall this much in price in mere weeks I can only imagine how much would it cost in 6 months time.

Maybe I should just return the damn thing for good this time and just wait for something better to come out.

So far my choices are few:

S7 = dont like the edge one and the regular one is too small
HTC = the worst re sale value, performance not as great as S7 or G5
Nexus = no bloody SD card
Motorola = **** Lenovo
Huawei = Kirin wat ???

SO there you go, nothing special atm. I might have to wait and see.

I dont know how old you are but it was in the 80s that the japanese seriously began to rival the germans and put us to shame in production. Korean Cars have been absolute garbage up until about 2-3 years ago it wasnt the 90s they have been bad up until the 2010s. Hyundai is definitely MUCH better 2014+ i would put them about on par with the average in most classes. KIA is better but not near as good as hyundai. Neither are among the best in the world. Toyota, Subaru and Mazda still make more reliable vehicles.

I would also say you are the deluded one, and illiterate i quite clearly said US production is bad and overpriced.

HTC resale is nearly identical to LG. Just spend some time on swappa the g4 and one m9 go for about the same in good condition. The s6 is still selling for $50+ more than both though. How is the performance not as good? All the reviews and benchmarks show them all to perform damn near identical because they are damn near identical lol. SD820 with 4gb ram. People seriously overstate performance of software. On hardware like that its going to be negligible unless there is some massive flaw.

What is really pretty goofy is dismissing Huawei. They are making the best phones on the market for the money right now bar none.

Really though. The hardware /internals o.n the g5 is similar to the galaxy s7. The ONLY place where the S7 beats the g5 is on looks. The feel of the s7 is slippery and awkward in the hands. But most people buy cases so the look and feel of most phones is irrelevant. I just returned my galaxy phone because coming from cyanogenmod the s7's interface is Sooo limited it was ridiculous. It's interface is what a Windows pc would be on a phone-tries to do **** for you that you don't need.-limiting. Whereas the G5 is a more customizable feature rich phone. If the G5 where a computer it would be more akin to a Linux box. I posted this because i find it hard to believe so many people are commenting to the contrary. Samsung must be paying lots of money to troll the interwebz. And that is the sad sh!t about the net that i will save for another day. Oh did i mention i just got my extra battery and waiting on a 360 camera! When all phones become equal it is the software that will set brands apart.
PS in all honesty the s7 screen is better. But if you prefer a phone that works better than it looks. G5

Can you give some examples of the G5 being more customizable than the S7? For me it's the other way around. I would love to be able to apply a theme and change the colors of the settings menu, which I can easily do with my s7 edge. So how exactly is the G5 more customizable?

How fickle we have become. Customizeability comes with custom roms. Therefore, most phones are customizable save for Verizon and sprint. I love my g5. Coming from an oppo find 7 and before that, s5 s6 one m9 iPhones etc etc. The build quality is above par, specs are top of the line, and it's a very pretty phone to look at. Sure, screen brightness is subpar and it might be a bit gimicky but that's always the case when someone tries something new. As for changing your settings colors, I must say my friend that would not sway my decision on what phone I'm buying PERIOD. custom roms are what we all do here and that's where android shines. Lets not get fickle and bash a phone because you haven't been provided with proper customization in the form of roms and such just yet. Besides, if the fun part isn't the tinkering and trial/error of getting the results you want then XDA is not the place for you ;) we all know what it is to miss dinner time because we were troubleshooting an issue like the worlds fate depended on it lol.

You cant use module on your s7 also how long almost 90% of s7 are exynos variant so no custom roms no mods.....

Modular only means customizable if your talking about a modular phone where you can pick your screen, CPU, GPU, camera, amount of memory and drive. When that phone arrives you can claim that a modular phone is customizable. The LG G5 is not that. You can add the camera module if you want to get a better camera experience but it does not make the camera better. The Dac B&O module does not improve the sound over bluetooth and it's experimental at best.

As far as custom roms on exynos I'm not sure where you got your info but the exynos is rootable and there a plenty of custom roms on XDA. If you're going to reply to my comments please do your homework before. This was just a unnecessary attempt at throwing shade at the s7. That's not what I'm about.

I didn't want to buy the G5 when it came out because I thought it was ugly AF but you know what? That's just my opinion. I don't like talking out the side of my neck so I bought the G5 the camera module and the spare battery. I think it's a great phone. Still debating whether it's worth keeping but at least I'm giving it a fair shake.

Customization are possible due to the openness of Android as opposed to ios. A phone does not require root to be customizable. Being able to change soft keys, being able to add a third party keyboard, music player or launcher. Those are all examples of customization and one does not to have root access to make any of those few changes among so many, many more.
